Bill, I am glad that you are OK. It was good to visit with you in spite of what happened. Sorry about the trouble that you had. She will be back in the air before you know it!

I hadn't looked at this thread until now - Bill, I'm so sorry to hear about your accident, but I am thankful that you are okay. You'll be flying her to Oshkosh again in no time I am sure.

Zack

Bill, I would just like to add my best wishes to those already posted.

I don't think that we, the ordinary air show going members of the public really say thank you often enough, or loud enough to the owners / operators / pilots of these magnificent warbirds.

Thanks for the happy memories of seeing your Spitfire in flight Bill.

I hope and look forward to seeing it back in the air where it and you belong.

If anyone took any photos of The Spitfire flying at Galveston, I would like to see/purchase them, especially the two aileron rolls, and the landing. I am not looking for damage photos as such. Thanks and thanks for all the words of support.

Bill,
This person has 2 inflight shots. I don't know him, but I saw your aircraft on this photo site.

Just saw this thread... Bill, first and foremost, I'm glad you both came out of it without injury! :!: Man, that just sucks about the 2 planes though.

I was just thinking the same thing last night and should have posted it as well. I've been attending flying events since I was very young, when the CAF had just moved to Harlingen. The climate has changed tremendously and the personal expense must be incredible. If everyone stopped touring the circuit, and many have, the opportunities to see these facinating machines would be gone. So, I second the notion! Thanks to you Bill and everyone else that keep these things flying...I thought I had the bug bad until it bit my 4 year old. That kids got it really bad!!

The good news is that they get some property tax breaks for displaying their aircraft at public events. At least the government does something right.

Glad to hear everyone made it out safely. We don't need anther year like last.

Steve, I guess two people can hear or have the same event and have two different interpretations of it. Personally I enjoyed visiting with you at Sun N Fun. I don't consider it harping to ask what a pilots background or experience is in a plane one is about to ride in. Frankly I consider it wise, would you wnat ot go to a Dr,. for instance that you had never inquired about? I belive asking a question is not the same as harping, but don't have a dictionary handy. I wish you had mention your feelings at the time, we could have talked about it or I could have easily skipped the ride. WIX members and others have asked about what it is like ot ride in a or fly a plane, Mustang or otherwise. I beleive somone on WIX asked "Anybody at Sun N Fun"? My pirep was to give public interest, apparently you saw it as a critisism of your friend. I don't believe I wrote any negative words, I only wrote what saw on airspeeds same as I wrote about the noise or cockpit environment. Some pilots may prefer a higher approach speed than others, or as you say posssibly to go around. I also am not sure what your post or mine previous one has to do with Galveston, anymore than the part about riding in the Chipmunk. If you feel the answer to the problem at GLS is to make a wheel landing at a higher speed I disagree. Both the factory test pilot as well as the Battle of Britain pilots recomend 3 pt landings in this type of plane. A Mustang may be different.

Bill

I think you are a well respected member of this Forum and I enjoy your conversation and comments on PIREPs. Again I apologize (PM sent) if the comment of harping is to strong of a term, I just found it odd and that is what stuck in my mind from our visit at Sun n Fun and why I thought you did not like the pilot. I did re read your comments of the ride and can see how that could be Mustang/Spitfire banter. I was not defending the pilot or Mustang (I'm more of a round air-cooled guy than a pointy wet nose inline guy) as much as the rides program (I think your opinion has a lot of weight on this forum). Your comments did bother me, I did ask other pilots there opinion and had I brought this back up to you I feel things may have been different at GLS. I see now that the spitfire is not the same and it probably wouldn't have.

Steve

P.S. I'm glad you are OK but it is a shame that the Spitfire and Hurricane got torn up! I would like to converse more about it at the proper time.

Bill,
re: Arrival pics at GLS.
I will mail pictures as requested to the address you gave me. I haven't quite figured out how to post them here yet. I was going to give them to you Sat. but.............. Glad you both are OK.
Once again thank you!, thank you! for the ride to GLS. What a thrill!

I was very impressed with your professional preflight briefing. and the entire flight.

Let me know if I can help in any way.

Best Wishes!
BR

I don't want to pull this thread off topic, but I would like to say welcome to a skyraider pilot, Mr. Rick Sharpe, who has joined us online. I have seen Mr. Sharpe and his skyraider at a bunch of shows and tell anyone, that he flies it like it was supposed to be flown. :D It is a pleasure everytime!

Fly safe,

Hello Bill,

My family and I are certainly very glad to know that you and the Hurricane pilot are okay. I brought my family out to see you fly Saturday; and I must say it was a real pleasure to see you buzzing around the field behind that Hurricane. I didn't catch any of the rolls that you performed, but I did get a couple of you in your Spit on the ramp with the group.

Like some of the others have mentioned, I look forward to coming into the WIX everyday and reading your posts among others. You post so often that one does get the sense of actually knowing you. My heart sank when I saw what happened, and again, I'm just real glad you are alright.

Per your request, here is one of the pictures I took; please forgive the quality.

Take care!
