Pobjoy engine

Trying to help a friend round up some drawings of the Popjoy engine. My leads up to this point have come up with nothing. From what I understand Popjoy sold out to Shorts Aircraft that is now owned by Bombardier. My Bombardier/Shorts contacts are not responding.

So... if anyone can help with technical drawings or manuals please drop me a note.

I hate to be the WIX spelling police, but I believe you are looking for Pobjoy (one "p" and one "b"), not Popjoy. That might help on an internet search anyhow.

Ah yes... that engine... you know... the little radial that starts with the letter "P"!!! Thanks for the correction and the link to the web site.

Hi Dan,
There's a few still used on a/c in the UK. You could try deHavilland Support, Shuttleworth, and maybe a post of the Flypast GA forum...
All slighly off beam approaches, I'm sure something will come out!

There is a Pobjoy engine, cowling, and custom three bladed prop at the air museum at South County Airport, between Morgan Hill and Gilroy California off Hwy 101, about 45min South of San Jose.

The engine, cowl, and prop were once on the front of a modified Piper J-3 owned by the late Ole Phalen (sp??), prop carver extrodinaire,from the San Jose area, in the tlate 60's- early 70's. The paint job on the entire aircraft was done by my father, Jim Neely, at our home in east San Jose.IIRC, I was still in HS and helped mask and fill some minor dents in the sheet metal panels. I was able to find the work I did on the display, last year when I visited. The aircraft was also on display but now wears a more conventional powerplant.

All in all a very emotional trip for me as there are many aircraft and artifacts there which have a personal connection with people I knew when I was growing up. IIRC, the museum is open on Tuesdays and weekends. Worth the very short trip off the main hwy,IMHO.

I have most most of the manuals and about 40 drawings of the Pobjoy engine.
