Warbird Information Exchange

Spotted what looks like a Lodestar parked there. Does anyone have any info on it? Have no idea how old the satellite imagery is.

I dont think its up there anymore. Also in view is a Lockheed Electra. The building is the Hangar 10 Aviation Museum.

The polished airplane to the left of the hangar, on the main ramp, is the Lockheed 12 that used to belong to Linda Finch, who completed the Amelia Earhart around the world flight several years ago. The last time I saw it, it was just derilict and rotting away. Pretty sad. I think it belongs to someone else now, but don't know where.

I've got to be in Denton on Sunday, so I'll swing by and take a look.

Gary: I wasn't aware that Linda was keeping her 12 up here. I know that Doc. A. keeps his 10A there. I've got quite a few hours in keeping it in the air from way back in my Fox51 days.

That was back in the 1900's......1998, 1999, or something like that.

Could that be the Lockheed that now is in restoration in the NMNA in Pensacola?

I remember reading in some aviation rag that a rancher in Santa Fe bought it. Back in 01 or 02 I was taking a vacation to colorado and stopped to take a look at the Connie there. It was sitting in the hanger Larry Salegenek(spell???) uses for his jet training service. Whether the same guy still own's it I don't know? If anybody can remember the N # they could do a search on the FAA site to find out.

Went by this afternoon on the way home. Ramp was clean other than some work stands. Glen H's R4D was on the ramp just west of the museum.

Glen used to give type checkouts in in. It's been probably 10 years since the last time I helped to run it up and do a quick taxi check. It used to sit in the little fenced compound just north of the old terminal building. Heck, I just realized that I haven't seen Glen or Candi in over a year now...

We used to see the R4D fly over our home in Ponder from time to time, but now that you mention it, that was about eight years ago. Man, time flies.

Last time I was in Ponder, we landed the Huey between the tracks and FM-156 and had supper at the Ranchman.....I think we had about 7 or 8 people with us that evening....We ended up causing all the traffic on 156 to stop there in town when we fired up to leave....lots of flying grass and hay. We had to hover up and around to get a running start due to a significant wind change while we were eating.

Our house was the first one south of the Post Office on the same side of the street. Ross Jr. used to show up for a steak quite often with his whirlygig, and dry grass would sometimes end up at our front step when the wind was out of the northeast! He always used the vacant lot north of the little antique store for his LZ.

I miss Texas.

Just saw something within the last few weeks that Richard W. is still building Staggerwing stuff there in town. That pile of pipe ash has got be at least 6' tall by now. The last time I was in his shop, Crazy Shirley worked for him and the pile was nearly to the top of the bench.

Had an interesting revelation tonight...Was watching MasterBlasters on the DVR and caught the first minuet of the show for once. Realized that the entire show is shot over on AeroValley and based in the old North Texas Aero hangar. My hangar was about 350 feet away from them. Haven't been back on the field since I got out of that hangar early last year. Randy Wilson would recognize it all too.
