Bit like the Ha 1112 Buchons, everyone has a 'German built' one ( sans the RR engine)

Not sure of the number of flyers, but would say less than a half dozen world wide. The AS-10 engine is obtainable. Just stack up a bunch of Euros and one can be had in overhauled condition. Other birds using the engine are the ME 108s' although most of these have been converted to Lycoming power.

Randy did you ever get "used to" the steep approach angle? I know many a guy in the back seat with the seat cushion sucked up the first time I landed at that angle with them back there. Helps if they had a lot of time in helicopters.

Excellent photos, thanks!

As usual, the right question is half the battle.

I suspect people are more interested in knowing if the Storch is a wartime one, built for Luftwaffe or German use, than a German built one.

Some of the French (and Czech) examples are wartime - see the dates:

For ease of access, Wikipedia:
Quote:
A total of about 2,900 Fi 156s, mostly Cs, were produced from 1937 to 1945. When the main Fieseler plant switched to building Bf 109s in 1943, Storch production was shifted to the Mráz factory in Choceň, Czechoslovakia. A large number were also built at the captured Morane-Saulnier factory in France, starting in April 1942, as the M.S.500 Criquet. Both factories continued to produce the planes after the war for local civilian markets (in Czechoslovakia it was made as K-65 Čáp, 138 were made by 1949).

I wouldn't bite too hard on that hook Bipe215. When you search their database for
Fiesler you get a return for FI156-C3..no airframes registered.

Kermits Storch and one other bird are listed as F1-156-C2 rather than FI. More confusing is the
War Eagles Storch..1939 production date, serial #728, but listed as a Morane 502 with a Salmson.
1939?? and a Morane?

Absolutely. As long as there's enough ink arrayed the right way on the right paper, the FAA (as indeed most other equivalents) don't give a d@mn* about the accuracy of the provenance or history of the type. As we know (think about it) they're happy enough with an old dataplate riveted to a new piece of metal for other warbirds... Likewise, as Obergrafeter's outlined here, major sub assemblies might not be from the same original aircraft; the FAA don't care about that - their issue is paper supporting validation of the airworthy subject.

Cheers,

*FWIW, I loath bowderising software, hence the edit. 'Darn' is a word for clothes making, if you are offended by the use of 'd@mn' then more time in fresh air would be indicated.

I wasn't biting on anything, just trying to add information. I think we all know that there are a/c that are not registered that could be flying soon, and there are a/c that are registered that will never fly.
