I'm kinda interested to hear the whole story, from Tim's side, but can also see Hellcat's point... I just wonder if Jeff was misinformed, or had received "angry" information or something.

My view is only out of curiosity, and once this goes away, most likely I'll forget about it anyway...

Having met the man, shaken his hand, talked to him and spent some time looking at his shop and the work conducted, I can say that I a good basis to say not only, that I consider Tim Savage to be an upfront and honest man, but also that the quality of the work being conducted on the T-6s, was second to none.

Saludos, Tim!

Guy goes to an open forum, says he doesn't know anything about anything. Asks for advice, then in the process makes a negative statement about a shop's work. A shop which bought back the work it did to satisfy a customer. I smell a rat, or an ulterior motive, on the part of the original poster...
I still would like to hear about the story, and if anybody PM's me or phones with the details, I'd be obliged.

This is a very interesting post...Any Business man that will "Buy Back" any product that goes through the door, especially an aircraft IMHO is a stand-Up Business man. This is something you just don't see very much any more, and it speaks volumes of the Character of the man. I would suggest, that since there are many, many people in the WIX with a wealth of knowledge of aircraft and the field of Aviation, that if you find a T-6 that you are interested in, that you run the Civil Registration Number and serial number with these guys, and let them tell you what they know about that particular airframe, then seek out and find the man or woman that you will higher to give your bird its bill of health. I'm Done.

I am in no way an expert here but have to agree with Hellcat. I cringed when I read Jeff's post.

Yes, it was civilized, as is the answer from Tim which remained much more civilized than I would have! This in my humble opinion, says a lot about him and his business partners... buying back an a/c from someone who feels dissatisfied for whatever reason is a powerfull statement !

But yeah, we certainly do not need to read recriminations of the sort which should always be done in private.

But kudos for the civility !

While I agree has per my previous post I don't think the yelling was necessary and not helpful. Tim handled things in a mature straight forward, positive and productive manner. This thread should not be removed because it shows how to and how not to act and behave in a
public place. Web based or not. I note that a lot of people say things that they never would face-to-face in a public place.

I think it may have been the part where our self-appointed guardians of propriety assumed that we are all too childish to be able to read criticism of someone's business and take it for what it is worth, and therefore we need censorship to protect us from it.

MANY internet forums invite commentary on business operations, positive and negative. Thousands are set up expressly for the purpose of airing complaints, misgivings, raves and rants about commercial services. They're valuable resources. Consumers who may be reading are quite capable of distinguishing a valid gripe from an unsupported rant -- the more so when the business owner is present to defend himself. If Scott were to decide that this is not what the forum is for, fine. But the idea that it's somehow improper has me laughing, too.

I just took a quick look at one of Tim's, Midwest Texan T-6s on the ramp at Lakeland. It looked pretty good to me. Of course, I can't see into the wing structure, or know how the price compares with any other plane, or what claims are made, but it looks good.

I'm sure anyone here who has ever restored an airplane will admit that when the task is done you can always look back at things that could have or should have been done differently or better. Look at the recent airline groundings for example. These aircraft were all well designed by some very smart and dedicated folks. Only after failures can you sometimes determine how things could have been done better. Luckily the body of experience is such that we find most of the gotchas before they turn into an accident. Not all of this stuff is cut and dried either. Everyone has an opinion and even renowned experts' opinions on a subject can vary widely. The bottom line is you put your butt in the seat and you need to muster the opinions of experts you trust and convince yourself that the aircraft is airworthy. Keep in mind though that even the experts make mistakes (a human trait I am told).

I just got back from the awards banquet for Sun N Fun at Kermit’s place and I can confirm that Tim's T-6G did indeed take home the Grand Champion post WWII award.

For what it is worth; the few issues that I saw on the aircraft at Oshkosh have been fixed and she looks real good. Tim was very forthcoming and open about the controversy. He told me his side of the story and it sounds like he took great care of his customer by buying the aircraft back. I don’t recall ever hearing a company, especially in Warbirds, going to such lengths to satisfy their customer.

Well done Tim on backing up your work and winning the Grand Champion award.

It must have been a pretty tough customer to satisfy!

Any chance, since Tim is "...very forthcoming and open about" the subject, that those of us not in the know might actually find out what this whole bruhaha is about? From everything I have heard(read) so far, it sounds like he had a customer who wasn't satisfied for some reason, and he stood behind his work, to the point of buying back the item. Good business practice, and certainly a person of good character to deal with. But, what is the "Paul Harvey" on the deal? (i.e.: The rest of the story?) Figure I may as well ask, since this thread is still going on, and it is reflecting well on him!
