OK...Got a question about AIRSHO 2008. Looking at the ticket info for '07, I see a "Special Seating on the flight line" offer for an extra $5. Never having been to MAF, I need advice from those of you who are familiar with the set-up. Do I want to buy the "special seating" or should I just bring my own chair and pick a spot I like?
I'm assuming that it'll be offered again this year. :?

While I have not been crowd side for many years, I think I would suggest the extra five for reserved seating on one day in Midland. That way you don't have to worry about staying with your chair etc. The other day you could wander the ramp area etc. The one negative to the show in Midland is the relative limited fence area you can have a clear view of the flightline.

Just my 0.02

Thanks Chris...Sounds like a logical plan to me. Watching airplanes taxiing around isn't why I go to the shows so a fence-line seat isn't important. Everything I want to see is usually happening at 500 ft or higher.

Wahoo...Mrs. Mudge has decided to take a couple of her "personal" days off and come to Midland with me. In all truth, she's as big a warbird freak as I am. :D

Mudge,

Although I attended as media last year, I would also recommend the extra 5. The lighting is great at this show..............

I'll be there with the U-11. From what I've seen in years past, I think I'd agree that the extra $5 would probably be worth it for at least one of the days.

Is there any way you could make the San Antonio airshow the first weekend of November? There's probably also going to be a bit warbird flyover in Fredericksburg on Pearl Harbor Day. - Just trying to offer options.

It doesn't look like you'll be seeing the Yellow Rose at Midland this year. The overhauled engine that was just hung on the left side didn't last through the first flight.

Where are we getting all these great deals on round motors all of a sudden? Be sure and give them all the exposure that they deserve.

The left motor came from the same place as the right motor. Both were in cans from a fire fighting outfit that went Tango Uniform, as I recall. Both were supposed to be overhauled zero time, but it turns out this one had zero time overhauled jugs, but something like 580 on the engine. Both went to a rebuilder, who tore them down and rebuilt them, to include sending the main bearings, etc., out to be replated (which even the zero time motor needed). At first blush it appears a main spun. I heard that when they pulled the screen it looked like a roll of quarters in there.

It's going back to the rebuilder, but not sure what it's going to cost us.

Mudge:

Please come say hello to me as well as Taylor: I enjoy your sense of humor, and during these times (lead-up to Airsho, not the political silly season), I can use a chuckle.

I should be driving around in a golf cart with Miss Airsho (my usual tough duty during the show)...
