I just found a number of photos many from Pearl Harbor from before the attack and, what I THINK are two from the attack. AS well as a few from latter in the war.

I have identified a B-24 named "Miss McCook".

But I wonder if anyone can help with a P-40 named " Patches". Probably 5th Air Force.

There are a couple of photos of P-36s at Pearl before the attack and an early Grumman Amphibian (G-44?)

Also an Early C-47? DC-2?

Next up is an early Tank. Have no Idea of what it is.

Lastly are two photos of a Nordan Bomb Sight; still listed as "restricted. For official use only. 336th (bomb) Group photo"

Before anyone ask, I am TDY at Ft Gordon and do not have access to a scanner.

These are all about 3x5. I paid three dollars apiece for them. Was that a fair price?

If anyone is really interested in seeing these, I will see what I can do.

Anyone near FT Gordon with a scanner? By near I mean within a couple of hours drive. I get away from the post every weekend and scout antique stores.

Miss McCook was a B-24D that served with the 43rd Bombardment Group (H) of Fifth Air Force in the Pacific combat zone.

Price of 3 dollars per image is friendly and do not hesitate to buy them. I regulary buy image in some specific European places for maximum of 2 Euro per image.

I would love to see the photos especially the one of the Norden bombsight.

One quick and dirty way is to take a digital photo of the paper photo. Turn on the macro feature and get as close as your camera will focus. In decent lighting you can turn the flash off so you don't get a flash reflection in the picture.

It works until you can scan them properly.

If you do not have a place to host the digital photos you can send them to Jack or me and we will gladly post them for you.

Until we see them, can you describe the P-36s? (Olive Drab or natural metal finish, fuselage buzz numbers or tail codes?) Any new photos from the attack are a REAL find!

First photo:

This is a line up of four P-36s. They are in front of Hangers 3 and 4.

They are bare metal with a dark colored cowling. They have the typical national markings from circa 1940. That is white and red strips on the vertical stabalizers.

On the vertical stabalzers are the following IDs PA10; PA15; PA 11; and PA16?.

PA10 has two stipes that go around the fusalage behind the cockpit, and THREE on the left hand wing. Also a device on the fusalage behind the cockpit and before the strips: dark Circle with an "X" type marking ( might actually be a device in the center with other devices on its 2,4,8, and 10 O'clock positions).

PA15 does not have the strips around the fusalage(cant see the wings)

PA11 has one strip around the fusalage but instead of being perpendiculare to the centerline of the fusalage, as in 10, it is 45 degrees to the centerline.

PA16? nothing discernable.


Second photo:

This one is on the flight line. It shows a bare metal P-36 with dark cowl, other markings are visable.

It is next to an amphibian, dark colored with the same squadron ? marking of a "circle with an 'x' ".

This is a flightline photo of a three quarter view. Natural metal with the red and white bars on the tail, along with the numer "7" on the tail and nose.

Large adf antenna above cockpit.

Right hand side of nose there is a circular protrusion. Perhaps a matching one on the other side. Thin propelor blades.

Four window front windscreen.

no de-icing boots on leading edge of wings. No light enclosure.

And;just my personal opinion, the fusalage looks "square"???? does that make any sense?

These perplex me.

My Grandfather was at Pearl, so I have more than a little interest in the attack.

I can not identify the ship!!

There are three photographs. A before of a large vertical structure with search lights but NOT the bridge.

The second and third are the same feature while the ship is on fire and smoking. The ship is low in the water at this point and one large Smokestake??? has slightly fallen sideways

The third MIGHT be a close up of the second. OR taken very closely after the second, perhaps as the lens was changed? Or the launch got closer?

The thing is I can not figure out what ship this is. I have looked all through the web and can't find anything that looks close...lol except a german ship.

I am guessing this is Pearl because all the other photos in the album were from Pearl.

Lastly I forgot to mention there is a squadron ? photograph from NAS Willow Grove in front of a C-47 and for what looks like one of the old Budd transports. This one is 8x10

I need to send these to Jack, and ask him to post them when he gets them.

I can ask Jack for a hi res scan for those of you that asked.

I have the same P-36 photo.
There ships of the 6th Pursuit Squadron 18th Pursuit Group.
The circle with a X is actuaslly the squadron insignia of a disc with a skull and 4 prop blades Taken early 1941 at Wheeler Field.

Do you think then that these are just copies an old vet got from somewhere and put in his album? Most of the photos in the album were of the usual tourist things that a soldier in Hawaii might have taken. And; they are in the right chronolgical order one would expect. There also lots of pictures of ordance that I did not buy ( I know Armyjunk2 is gonna scream).

If they are just copies of things already out there, then do you think it is still worth sending them to you?

You've got to remember there could be hundreds of original prints
from the same neg.
Some people think their original is the only one so they own it.
Don't fall into that trap. I've visited vets from the same units and most
have the same photos in their albums
