OK Django... I've heard of of a number of places in Illinois, but where the heck is "NOTHERN"?

Mudge the geographically astute :P

Yellow Rose flew into McChord AFB back in '88 for the airshow. The base commanders wife got her thong in a knot over the nose art and started ragging on the General about it. Next thing we in the crowd know is Yellow Rose is fired up and rolling as the flight crew indicated to the General and his wife where the aircraft could be seen within the next five minutes. :finga:

That was our standard brief at any airshow. But we heard that all the time usually from the commanders wife or even from someone in the crowd. They never understood why the art work was done in the first place, no matter how much time you would take to explain it to them, the light just wouldn't come on... One time at the Navy Corpus show, they told us that we couldn't open the PX. We then told the ramp boss that we will be departing shortly and to clear the ramp. A jeep then rolled up with the base commander and the matter was cleared.

Ha, that's a good one! Well Yellow Rose in now more "pc" - she's wearing a vest now, as you can barely see here from a picture I took at last year's Waco, TX airshow:

Here's a better shot of the "pc" Yellow Rose artwork from the 2006 Temple, TX airshow...

A shot of the revised Devil Dog artwork, again from 2006 Temple to see what it looks like now as a comparison:

I HATE PC bull$*^T. I don't consider it "Political Correctness" but "Patent Cowardice" on the part of the "insulted" or "upset" party. It is a violation of Freedom of Expression to force such a cover up. If I ever get a large enough aircraft of my own, it will defiantly(yes- defiantly & definitely) sport a nude female bit of noseart. And anyone who decides to challenge me for it shall be called what they are!

Robbie, I commend your enthusiasm, but you need to understand reality. If you want to put your plane in airshows and fly-ins, you have to meet the demands of the organizers and sponsors. Like it or not, they're going to be "sensitive" to things like nudity (animated or not) and name. I know there are a lot of people who are still mad about the change of Confederate to Commemorative, but as our new President told us 2 weeks ago when he visited the DFW Wing, there are a lot of sponsorships that wouldn't exist today and we wouldn't have a chance in h*ll to get if we'd kept the name. There are a lot of airshows that won't invite aircraft when they know that there' nudity on the airplane. We want to make money and try to offset as much cost as possible, but we can't do that if we don't get invited.

Yes, but what next? Change the name of the "Enola Gay" to the "Enola who likes other women"? There has to be a line- otherwise, first you add cothes to a nude girl on an airplane- next you add small stickers with the sponsor's names. Sooner or later, you have to have the sponsor name in 24 inch high lettering down each side of the aircraft...

I do understand your point- I just hate people who are afraid a child may see nudity on an old aircraft, and/or just get "offended" by it, and make others change their things.

If the paint job is purely a made up one, and you want to do that, fine. But if it is representing an actual aircraft(be it the original one, or one painted to look like the original) then the artwork should match the original- nude or not. Throw "Memphis Belle" into a "Mother Hubbard" cause she shows a little leg? I Think Not...

Robbie
on a rant... ;)

As to the CAF name change- I view this also as radical "PC" gone haywire, but have been willing to accept the change as it at least keeps the group together. But I still refer to it as the Confederate Air Force- then I have to correct myself...

This has nothing to do with Anyone in this thread regarding Nose art, Though I do adore Miss Yellow Rose, and other maidens that have adorned the Bomber....Any Bomber.. PC definitely sucks, and as we are Americans, we have been beaten into submission, least we "offend" anyone....I concur the the Name Change for the CAF was necessary to keep the program going....So with that, I can't complain....Ya know, and I say again, this is not directed to anyone in the WIX.... and since there are a lot of whinning "citizens" out there, I seem to recall a couple of B-17s of WWII...and the Nose Art was Quityerbitchin (or Quitcherbitchin) and Quityerbitchin II (or QuitcherbitchinII) It would be a great Sub-limin-anul message to the whinners, at least that is merely my opinion. S**t I just love touching feeling, seeing, and hearing a Warbird, I really don't give a tinkers darn as to what is painted on the side.
Later....peace out
