Warbird Information Exchange

Coming up on June 21st is the THIRD Annual "Living History Day" or "Reenactor Day" at the Air Victory Museum at South Jersey Regional Airport (KVAY) in Lumberton NJ http://www.airvictorymuseum.org/

For those who are not familiar with AVM, they are a small, locally based Military Air Museum, started about 10 years ago by the late Steve Snyder, who had founded Steve Snyder Enterprises, and was also inventor of the Paraplane. He was also the man who got the Me-262 reproductions built, that are flying today. Steve was a Parachute and warbird enthusiast, and he was killed in 1999 when his F-86 (N186JC) crashed during a low pass at KVAY.

The museum has a nice collection of more current warbirds, and also lots of other aviation items. Annually they have the "Reenactor Day" as a way to get the public out to the museum, and also expose them to WWII(and other) Living History. It is a fun event, and I wanted to let the members of the forum here know about it, in case they would be interested in attending.

The AVM is also in trouble at the moment: Due to a purchase of the airport by the State of New Jersey, the NJ Department of Transportation is telling them they MUST pay a $2000 a month rental on the property they were given, free, by the original owners of the airport! The state of NJ purchased the airport to keep it open, as local referendum(emphasis on "DUM") denied the old owners permission to complete necessary upgrades to the airport- relocating and lengthening the runway, in order to have a top of the line, level, and long one, rather than the existing mid length GA runway, which humps in the middle... The State has come a long ways in getting this local airport into good shape: but now they are trying to squeeze the Museum- not because they don't like them, but because they seek profit from a non-profit organization...
