How many B-26's are still around?

I know that until a few years ago there was one that was a B-26 that was flying until an unfortunate accident.

How many are still around? Are any planned to return to the air? What was the result of he accident I mentioned....was it a total loss?

I'm from Baltimore and my father worked at Martin so the history of this plane is exciting to me.

If anyone else has some interesting history or photos of the B-26 please share.

The B-26 accident you mention was the CAF bird "Carolyn"

The other "flying"l B-26 in at Fantasy of Flight in Florida. It has not flown in many years. Last time i saw it fly was in Denton, TX @1999

What happened to Carolyn? What was left? Where is it now? What are the plans for it?

Run a search here on WIX for the CAF's B-26 "Carolyn." There has been some discussion of this aircraft previously, and it will let you know what happened. I think the NTSB report is even posted. The aircraft was completely destroyed, with little to nothing left. There are some photos here on WIX, if you look for them, of what is left. It is mostly small pieces that fit into small boxes.

I, too, am from Baltimore, and my Dad also worked for Martin. He was an engineering draftsman, and worked on the seaplanes starting in 1942, was loaned to Goodyear for 18 months in 1944-45 to work on the FG-1 and then worked on the 202/404 projects. Got an electrical engineering degree and moved over to the Army missiles in the mid-50's and he moved to the Orlando plant in 1957. His last project was on the Sprint ABM guidance system, and he retired in 1974.

If I am ever able to do so, I would like to bring one back to Baltimore. At this point, I have an engine cowling, engine mount, a bunch of hydraulics, a Martin 250 turret, a spare parts box marked B-26C, and a control wheel.

If it should be any twin engined bomber, surly the B-26 deserves a short new-build production line. What an undertaking but what a pay out!

Sure is sad...I crawled thru her back in early 80s when she was almost restored....never did get to see her fly. Took these pic about 4 months ago at Borrego Spgs.

But...also there..was this!

That fuselage behind the B-26, that looks like Kermit's A-20. Isn't that the one that was owned by Howard Hughes and stored at Fox Field for many, many years?

Do you have any more pictures of the A-20?

Warbird kid, sorry but building new ones "ain't gonna happen." I do wonder what happened to the other ones that were civilianized and had the executive interiors put in them after the war. Weren't there a few other ones besides "Carolyn."?

Either crashed and destroyed or scrapped. Just terrible!
