Well, it looks like I'll be heading down to the Pensacola area next week and had a few questions about a museum visit.
1) How does one get to tour the restoration area? Are those tours open all week by appointment?
2) The Blues are going to be practicing at 8:30am, are there viewing areas for this?

It has been 11 years sense I've been there and I CAN'T wait to get back into those doors!

Tim

Make a beeline for the front desk when you get there.
They will be able to hook you up with restoration area and "back 40" tours.
They fill up quickly so the earlier you sign up the better chance of making it on those tours.

If the blues are back in town they will bring you out to the grandstand seats beyond the outdoor display area, museum tour bus access only.
They overlook the runway out behind the ramp area. The blues were practicing in El Centro, CA while we were there in January.
We were also told that the resto shop tours are part of the 11:00am flightline tours on weekdays. We could not go on that Saturday that we were there.

I've already had another "Friends of the NIS" looking to give me special back door treatment while in the area (yes, his name is Rob).

I had 4 years getting the "Sand in the Vaseline" treatment by the Navy and will pass on anymore, Thanks.

Maybe I should ask someone who looks important there where their SB2C is, and the TBD...

I visited in '05, and saw the Blues practice and took the "back 40" tour. I'd plan on at least two days at the museum, one for the practice and tour, and another whole day just for the museum. Even then, it'll be hard to see all of it.

I shot over 700 pictures, and still think I missed a few things.... 8)

2 days, I'm not sure that will happen this trip as it is with family and I think 1 day will be all I get. But I'm much closer now and I plan to make a few more tips down when I can spend a good amount of time there.

Thanks for the help guys
Tim
