Before I found this website, I used to hide my addictions to all things warbird, I used to go to bookstores and read airplane magazines for hours alone. never would I bring anyone with me. The same is true with airshows. I have made the mistake of bringing girls and good friends to airshows just to see them lose interest after about an hour. I don't know about the rest of you, but I can stare at a warbird for hours. I can walk around a warbird and look at so many different things and just stare for a long time. I've had the above people ask me to move on to the next plane because they look at it once quickly and their done. Well I no longer bring people who really do not have much interest. Either you have the "bug" or not, and it ruins it for me if I have people who "don't get it" .... and just want to leave after an hour. So I usually attend airshows solo ... and have the time of my life I may add. So what are some of your tendencies? What do you like to do at airshows that would tend to annoy your wife or friends who don't have the "bug" like we do?

So I asked this before, who's going to the Shafter airshow in California next month. It's coming up.

And what beer tent are we all going to call our WIX base at Chino? am I going to have to take care of this job? ...

Bookstores actually allow you to treat them as a public library?

I have found the hardest part is getting friends who are non pilots to the airshow, once there they tend to like it; IF, AN THIS IS A BIG ONE THERE IS REAOSNALBE COMFORT ITEMS LIKE BATHROOMS, SHADE, DRINKS, FOOD. I was commenting on the good things about the LSFM show , but how more shade like a tent would be good., someone wrote they had enough. Yet in a recent survey iby ICAS, lack of shade was mentioned by 1/3 of visitors., even more than jet noise as a problem.
I think people also like the personal involvement, ie come out to the field at Oshkosh in the am and be able to walk around and talk to the crews, vets etc. maybe go inside some planes.

Ah, now that's different. You didn't say you bought them, you just went there & read them for hours.

Not sure what your point is, but who cares right?

So do you have any input on the real content of this post?

Hi Bill, yes I agree with you, non-aviation friends have no interest until they get to the show and then they only seem to like the modern military aircraft. Once an older warbird is in the air they become bored. Too bad for them right? .... as for tents and shade, I agree there is not much at the shows I usually attend, but it's hard to look up and see anything when you have a tarp over your head. What I would like to see is bleachers, like at Reno. My legs are killing me after about 4 hours of walking and standing, and I hate carrying around a beach chair. Poor me ...

Oh Yes.....Not sure where your from famvburg, but the coffee shop seems to be the bigger draw at Borders or Barnes and Noble chains here. When I go there sometimes I'm hard pressed to find a magazine I want thats not dog eared, coffee drip stained or I have to shake the crumbs out! And there's no obligation to buy.

Well, if I sold books, I wouldn't want to be treated like a library. Kinda like I don't buy tools to loan to everybody on the airport. Considering it's in your post, I think it's a valid response. Now, regarding airshows, well, I've found that lots of non-aviation friends are more fascinated by both warbird & non-warbird airshow stuff. I may take some of it as rather 'ho-hum' where they get really excited. I don't go to many airshows now-a-days, but the last one I went to, I got bored & left early. Not much exciting about warbirds & non-warbirds making a bunch of low passes. There was a reason they scheduled the Aeroshell Team last, but I wasn't sticking around, I'll catch them another time.

Where I am, the local mall, or what's left there, has a Bookland/Hallmark. The other bookstores here in town are religious types & I don't frequent them either. The Bookland doesn't have a coffee shop, nor even anywhere to sit & I doubt they'd take kindly to someone taking a book or mag without buying it out to the mall & sitting. I reckon they'd see that as shoplifting. Hmm. if a bookstore has a coffee shop & they promote sitting & reading, like a library, well, I suppose they can afford to do so. Maybe that's why we don't have one around these here parts.

Hey, all that's fine and wonderful, but maybe you can find a "bookstore" website and debate there. trying not to disrespect you here, I'm really not, but I'd rather keep this thread on track. I'd rather discuss airshow issues here and many of us "Warbird" junkies LOVE watching warbirds just making a bunch of low passes. Are you sure you're on the right website?

I recently discontinued Mil Book club membership because I just didnt have time or money to order everything I saw the looked interesting. Barnes & Nobles bargain tables are my favorite haunt and I've scored some really good aviation titles there.
Feel free to join me over an overpriced cup of joe with a good Av book anyday, Hellcat.

Hellcat,

As is the issue with all the postings get pushed down the board so quickly, I had to search four pages to find your posting on "Who's going to Shafter" that I previously replied to:
http://warbirdinformationexchange.org/p ... ht=#189810

There's already a POF "who's going" link that should remain the main posting so we don't have to search for a bunch of them at:
http://warbirdinformationexchange.org/p ... ht=#189949

If I were to search for Chino under this topic in another month to see who's going to be where, I would never find it.

Favburg,
There's lots of drink a coffee and read a book, stores like that here in my area too.
