It seems we are still having the debate over Videe link positings, and while HGUCSU is getting the flak it was inevtiblae that this would become an issue. I know Scott set up another message thread for them, but I can see where that can be a little problamatic since everything is lumpled under one topic header and it is hard to scan through quickly to get a sences of what they videos are about.

In the past few years Scott has added several subsections such as the Gatherings and Maintenance Hanger.

Is there still room in the software that runs the site to add antoher section for Video Posts-
That would keep them better organized and allow folks that wish to easily browse through them, and possibly ease up some the concerns and tempers that seem to be coming out about filling up the Hanger section. We already have a seperate Photo section, why not a video link area as well.

Just a thought

The problem I see with a lot of the posts in the video section right now is lack of any description - just a link. You have no idea what you're in for, or if you liked something you'd have a hard time finding it again. It *should* work.

He could add a section for WiXers that film and produce their own video's instead of just links to youtube.

I think that would be a good idea to promote the great work done here by the WIX community that film Warbirds for others to see.

Just a idea.

Cheers Dave C

We do have the ability to add another forum to the mix but there is an issue that was brought up earlier last week...

There are a lot of "under visited" sub forums and people have complained that if they post something there, then few actually see it (like the photos in the photo gallery). Many people post here just because they know that a discussion is easier to start with a post here than under a more appropriate sub forum.

Additionally, readers have complained that it's tough enough to check just the main forum here and read through it... and that it takes a lot more time to keep track of multiple forums.

As for adding the ability to upload videos to this site vs YouTube, that really takes more bandwidth than we currently have. Just like the discussion of WIX-hosted photo galleries vs. users using Photobucket or Webshots, it all boils down to cost. Currently, WIX is just about self supporting. Even with the generousity of members and Google Ads, Scott still has to put some of his own money in to keep the site going. Even then, we still see issues with the servers when high-traffic is encountered and the ongoing issues with the SQL servers that run the forums. To upgrade to a more robust webserver/webhost would be pretty labor and cost heavy at this point and we don't see the benefit in the way of increased income to run the site.

YouTube and a few of the other web video sites have the benefit of ease-of-use and excellent bandwidth... we just can't compete in that arena. Sites like AirshowBuzz.com have the benefit of having a video/film production company as a major sponsor/creator (Ed Shipley), so it makes sense for them to have hosted videos there.

We have been seriously considering hosting images for members and are looking at cost-effective and easy-to-use applications to do so. It's still a bit of the way out, but we are working on it.

Thanks,
Ryan
