Curtis something? Ive seen it before had gunners or aircrew? in the nacelle positions if im recalling right.

Pretty sure those are B-18's in the background and on the taxiway.

OOOh you guys are too good..I should have looked at the back of that photo!!! Its one of the ones that is actually captioned..it says Bell Airacuda Langley Field....wherever that is!!

I'd agree on the B-18s, but it's definitely not a C-40. Undercarriage, nacelle, cockpit glazing and windows are all wrong. (Sorry, I'm researching the 10 & 12 family at the moment...)

Pretty sure it's the Lockheed XC-35, so there's a family connection.

Oops. Beech 18. Like a Lockheed 10, but ~uh~ common. (Oops, there go the Beech bombers...)

Interesting colours though, obviously in Aus with the RAAF Ansons behind, and early with the meatball in the roundels. Wonder where?

Well this photo is in The RAAF Amberley section of the album , these are captioned as to place but not date . I have photos of crated aircraft like Douglas Divebombers,P-40's getting uncrated etc as well as RAAF Fairey Battles, a Hudson some 22bg B-26's that i'm yet to scan in that were all taken at Amberley.

Ohhh, sonuva...I was looking at pictures of the 35 and 40 at the same time and got them confused.

That's a good summary. There's a fair amount of good data on the web on the type, including some corking high-res photos on the NMUSAF website, including the toilet (outside the pressurised compartment, since you ask). The engine nacelles are different, and the gear was different as well.

A friend of mine was at Amberley uncrating the A-24's for the 3rd Attack Group...Commented that they had a very skinny Aussie who would crawl back ino the fuselage to hook up the control cables.
