The B-25s are obvious, but I dont recognize the aircraft in the background. Any help is appreciated.

The Maryland was very slim. I think they are Baltimores.

Definately Martin 187 Baltimores, the descendent of the Maryland. The Baltimore used the same basic wings and tail, but had a deeper fuselage and bigger engines (CW R-2600s instead of the Maryland's PW R-1830s.)

I've always thought both airplanes were cool. Unfortunately, they tend to get overlooked by historians.

Thanks for the help guys. I never would have guessed Baltimores; for some reason I had my head stuck on the older Martin B-10/B-12. And nice call on the P-40 Peter, I never even noticed it. I'm correct in assuming from the aircraft mix that this is probably in the Med?

Any Baltimores or Marylands in existance?

No idea what nationality the P-40 is. Oh and by the way if anyone recognizes where this photo is from please let me know. This is one of several a friend of mine emailed me and he didnt say where he found them (can't remember more like it).

Sadly both Baltimores and Marylands are extinct, without even any substantial wreckage that I know of. You may get to see a B-25 or two..

Pink American B-25s and Commonwealth (British or S African) Baltimores could be escorted by RAF or American P-40s; the combination puts it almost certainly North Africa, late in that campaign, I'd suggest. Only thing I can guess at is a late (long) P-40 type, with drop-tank, unless Steve as a magic P-40er for more data. Some US marking expert can tell us what dates that roundel type occurred between.

Shot on an official large format military camera, heading East, early pm, looking towards the Med. The cameraman had been chewing tobacco, had red socks and probably was unshaven. He was tired, and would rather have been at home.

Some of the above may be incorrect, other bits are 'elementary'.

As to the nationality of the P-40... I dunno for sure. It's a P-40K, and could be from one of the
Commonwealth nations, or perhaps from the 57th FG.

Oh... almost forgot... the B-25s are from the 12th BG.
