Actually the shoot is for ISAP Members who are in town for the meeting this week as mentioned above.........

Its been a pretty darn good program so far this year and tomorrow's field trip (GG and the F-35 are a part of it) should be very good.

I had a fellow that works for Bell Helicopter at Arlington Muni tell me tonight that the ISAP guys will be there for a shoot of the BA609 Tilt Rotor (static) and he heard there may be a P-38 and P-51 there tomorrow afternoon as well...

Who knows what will be in the sky.

CAPFlyer, no, not originally, as I was saying it has/had an order of precedence, the other way around. A descendent was the namesake of the predecessor. (F'risntance You can't have John Doe III before John Doe I.) Not any more, it seems, which isn't a big deal, I suppose.

Actually JDK, the PR hack's usage of "namesake" is correct. It can also be used to refer to the original from whom/which the name is derived, and here in the US at least, that usage is probably more common than using it to refer to the later-named entity. In the US it also does not connote any denigration of the name-donor; quite the contrary.

Fair comment August, taking it as a US English usage, I accept the point. Still a good rant occasionally does you good. :D Part of the reason for going off at the deep end is that English is an incredibly precise tool, that can be used to give all sorts of shades of meaning, but most users are stuck at the level of like really awesome...

Whatever. Good that the guys at the squirty airplane toybox get to see a real pilot and 'plane. ;)

Cheers,

Actually Lew Shaw is bringing his P-51 and the Super Pinto over. Shooting is supposed to be static and flying. The Bell 609 will be static......

Zane: GG showed up tonight about 1730. Left a few tounge prints on her as we put her in the hangar and secured her for the night. Departure should be sometime after 1230.

Thanks for the info...I saw photos of her on Fence Check this morning...

I figured she would be in town early...I was just hoping she would spend the night at a civilian field so we could see her...

Where is she going next?

I think this is the difference between "King's English" and "American English" rearing it's head again.

In the US, it is proper (and exactly how I read it) to write it the way it was written - "the P-38 is the namesake for the F-35". It can also be written as "the F-35 is the namesake of the P-38," and "the F-35's namesake is the P-38." The PR guy properly used the correct adverb to place proper order of precedence using the English that is proper in the United States.

Thanks CAPFlyer, that's pretty much what August said, and I take the point regarding current good American English. Just to clarify, as an Australian married to a Canadian, I'm generally familiar with most of the wrinkles in the various Englishes out there (not this wrinkle perhaps!) and I do stand by the statement that at least, it's a modern use - not as it used to be. That is of academic interest only, though. ;)

I just caught Mr. Shaw and his beautiful airplane flying off into the sunset after work today...

The sun was in the wrong place...or was it me? so the pics aren't worth posting...except this one during the run up...

Thanks for the heads up!
