One of the "actors" Cdr Evan Aurand, was Naval Aide to President Eisenhower, (1957-1961). A Naval officer during and after WWII, he eventually became a Vice Admiral and Commander of Anti-Submarine Warfare Force, US Pacific Fleet (1969-1972) during the Vietnam War.

The first (and only) squadron to receive the FJ-1 Fury was VF-5A, based at NAS North Island near San Diego, California. The first landing of a Fury on an aircraft carrier took place on March 16, 1948, when then Commander Aurand, CO of VF-5A, landed aboard the USS Boxer.

His fight suit, G-suit, boots and I believe a helmet are in the New England Air Museum's collection. They were acquired when the museum got their North American FJ-1 Fury. Aurand also participated in the Bendix all jet race and the museum's FJ-1 was the aircraft he flew in 1948. 120349 / S-102 (cn 141-38401) I believe it was traded to somebody out at Chino.

P: Noise coming from under instrument panel. Sounds like a midget pounding on something with a hammer.

S: Took hammer away from midget.
