Boeing's PT-19

Fri Feb 08, 2008 10:57 pm

Anyone here has a good picture of the Fairchild PT-19 used by Boeing, to test scaled down control surfaces for the B-29?

Tulio,

I have a picture in one of my books of this PT-19 with the scaled down wings and tailgroup of the B-29.

Give me a couple of days and I will get it scanned for you.

P.M. me with the e-mail address you want it sent to.

Take care my friend!

So which one of you is going to restore your Fairchild to those specs? :o

Dennis, you can post the photo here, so that everyone can see it. Thank you, buddy!

Dan, I wouldn't restore mine like that; I am sure it would have to be difficult to get it approved by the F.A.A.

I already have the tail section in the typical PT-19 configuration; it will have to be stripped and then re-covered.

This photo is from "Boeing Aircraft since 1916" by Peter M Bowers.

Tulio,

Bill beat me to it. (Thanks for posting this Bill.)

The photo I have is the same one (different book), but it is not cropped quite so tightly, so I guess there is no point in me posting mine.

This is the only shot I have ever seen of the Boeing converted PT-19. The caption on the photo in my book (Sherman Fairchild's PT-19, Cradle of Heroes) mentions that the front cockpit contained many instruments (for the flight testing I presume), and I imagine that is what the guys are huddled over the front instrument access panel for.

Steve, Bill:

Thank you, guys. Now, I'll share the two shots that I found yesterday.

These come from the Spring 1969 issue of Aero Album (Volume 5), page 42. There is no photographer identified, so it is probably safe to assume that the pictures were shot by a Boeing photographer.
