I see a lot of N3Ns with registrations beginning with N450**; how does it happen that so many are in that series?

Think it has to do with the time frame that these airplanes were surplus'd and put to work. If you look at the N3N's by N number, dam near all of them go from N44700 to 45300's. Other have been changed over the years to more custom N numbers. But even then, trace there history back and you will see them in between those numbers.
There are not too many out there that were not dusters at one time in their life. I am currently doing some research on old duster company's that worked them.
