I think the jet drivers and maintainers are hijacking this thread! Looks like we'll have to arrive at Thunder in mass to catch the elusive Mudge. As Paul said, you should switch to the good side of the force. :D

I will admit, the F-86 is probably my favorite jet. Could be because I was involved in scrambling so many of them when I was a lad in "This Here Now USAF" ('55-'59). I was with the 34th Air Division (Defense) at Kirtland and our "protector" squadron was the 86th FINCEPTRON. We jumped many an airliner that came through our ADIZ that hadn't adhered to it's flight plan. Scrambled on Venus a few times, too.
That planet just gets too close at certain times of the year.

That's WHAT I'm talking about! As I said the Classic Jets AND the Big Propliners are my favorite Warbirds. Hi Kevin, Glad the Spirit of Freedom will be returning to T.O.M. again. Hopefully I will see you come in on Arrival Day (Friday, Aug. 8th) like I did back in 2006, and then catch up with you and Tim on Saturday the 9th.
:D

Hey Mudge - sounds like you were involved with Air Defense in the pre-"SAGE" and perhaps early "SAGE" days. I was in the USAF from 72-76 and worked in the latter days of the SAGE in radar sites in the NE U.S. broken up by a year in Thailand (73-74) with a Tactical Contol radar squadron. Sounds like you were involved with the scrambles of F-86D's or F-86L's?

Hopefully I'll see you in the "Photo Pit."
:)

Yeah...SAGE was just being implemented when I was at tech school at Keesler. Some of my classmates were assigned to the first SAGE units at Eglin. Don't remember which model Sabre we had but we had lots of 'em.
Strangely enough, after 6 weeks of "scope dope" school, I got stationed at the 34th AD(D) headquarters and never saw a radar set in my 3 1/2 years there.

Mudge the scope dope

Ok, I know this is silly, but as many times as people introduce P-47s this way in threads, I thought this would be appropriate for a WIX shirt at TOM.

Ok, I'll stop...

I'm sorry, it was a long day at work!

No Problem, Phantom! I am hoping that the "Double Jugs" TRIPLE to at Least 3 Doubles, if we can get "Tarheel Hal" added to the 5 currently listed on the website lineup.

Looking forward to a Super T.O.M. in 2008!

Phantom...I'd love to get one of those shirts for Mrs. Mudge, but:
1) She wouldn't wear it, and
2) I'd begin my life of celibacy immediately thereafter.

Mudge the wuss
