[quote="Old SAR pilot"]Excellent news! Thank you, Mr. Cavanaugh!!

Believe the old engines on hand will be good enough to get her to Addison.

I thought the old motors were eating metal? Can they make a one-time-flight?

From what I know, the B-29 engine conversion/installation will be done in Midland and then she will go to CFM for other maintenance and as a base for some time to come. The B-24 will go to CFM for further maintenance and as a base earlier.

Again, this is from what I think I know and may change.

Awesome news for sure! The Cavanaugh will take great care of the old girls. What are the plans for the new hangar that was being built to house the 24 / 29 in Midland?

Sorry for the late reply, y'all. I've been crawling over an ol' B-17 all day today. I'll try to answer some questions here...

No, I won't be moving to Dallas. I am not an employee of the B-29/B-24 Squadron anymore, since my job change within the CAF.

No, the B-29 isn't going to fly to Addison on the old engines. They are making metal and it is NOT worth risking this airplane for anything. It will fly when the new engines are finished and installed.

The $2 Million that was originally pledged over a year ago, from another source, has not come in yet, but we are still hopeful that he will come through with that promise for us. Until then, we will continue to do what we can do to raise money to complete the remaining work left on FIFI. This is obviously a HUGE help to the project and we are extremely grateful to Mr. Cavanaugh and his team of wonderful folks at the Cavanaugh Flight Museum.

I will let Old Shep address questions about the new hangar in at the CAF and it's future plans...perhaps on it's own thread?

And to answer one that was asked of me from an e-mail...I WILL still be part of the re-engine program on FIFI.......as long as they want me to, that is. And yes, we'll be sure to keep y'all updated on it's progress.

Gary

Does this "good" news bring financial freedom for the rest of the CAF? Hope it does.

I'm not sure what you mean, Ober. Sorry, but can you help me a little and explain what you're asking?

This is great news. I can not wait to see the B-29 in the air again.

So realistically what are we talking here for a timeline? 2-3 years?
