My Grandfather giving my Mom a ride in his home made bike trailer. The pic is from around 1950. The story is that grandfather made it out of a bomb casing. It looks more like a drop tank to me. Grandpa lived in Schievening, Holland. He served in the Dutch army before the Germans came and survived the war by hiding. After the war he would go to the German bunkers and find cool stuff like artillery shell casings and such.
Can anyone idenify what my Mom is riding in?

If it was a bomb casing that would make for one heavy trailer....perhaps a wooden tank similar to those used on Mosquitos (looks too small though) or maybe a section of one of those resin-impregnated paper tanks that were used on P-47's and P-51's?

drop tank?? no way, to small. the av gas would be gone in minutes. practice bomb??... doubtful, too tear dropped shaped. radio direction finder football cover??.... possibly, but it must have been pretty big??

Makes me think of a 75 gallon tank...It was a sport for Dutch kids in those days to make even boats out of those droptanks !

Where were the tanks made?
What was the resin? Phenol?
Anything of the detail?
