According to another warbird owner at Lago Vista, the man that "brought it in" is Carl Vernon and I'm making the assumption from the email that he also owns it now.

Junkyard, thanks for the pictures and isn't your co-pilot precious :P

An L-19 or, if you will, O-1 (painted in Army colors) and a non-warbird go fast twin

Karen have you seen George in his L-19 lately? I think the last time he brought it up to Boerne was last summer. Whats he up to?

That is strange...they have been there for years...

They were near a hanger on the south east corner of the airport...quite visible.

Thanks for the pics of the Mohawk.

Great shots of the Mohawk! I've always thought they were an interesting machine, though kinda strange looking.

I do have some questions. Does the "GANG" marking indicate former service with the Georgia ANG? No chocks and no tie-downs... is she normally kept inside a hangar? Is she a flyer?

Nope Ztex, what you are looking at is GA NG. That would be Georgia National Guard. It would be Army, the USAF never flew the O-1, it was one of the few fixed wings the Army was allowed to keep when the USAF made a stink about flying assets and missions.

Dean -

Didn't see and chocks or tie downs when I paid a visit. Also, the Mohawk was parked behind the row of hangars. As for any other insight, there was no one around to ask.

LadyO2Pilot: Would your Lago Vista contact be able to help answer some of Dean's questions?

Mike

I will try to get some answers from Lago Vista.....may have to make a phone call as dear friend sometimes is slow in answering email :P

and RickH - FYI I think you meant OV-1 not O-1 as having never been with Air Force and kept by those selfish Army boys...LOL. O-1 definitely served with AF.

More later when and if I get info.

Hey, Karen, coulda sworn I hit the V key ! Must've missed it somehow.

I know the Army didn't have O-1's, they only flew L-19s !

Do you know why the Army wouldn't let Warrant Officers fly the OV-1's?
