I hated “Pearl Harbor”. When I first heard of it I got excite because I thought it was going to be a “Tora, Tora, Tora” with new digital FX. The one thing I despise is not showing the correct aircraft models. The other is showing things that never happened, like when one of the masts from a battleship comes crushing down. This added a Titanic feeling to it, but some veterans must have gotten really pissed. You could still make a blockbuster movie by sticking to what really happened and not inventing things up. Nevertheless my girlfriend at the time loved it, obviously the love scenes. In the end I felt like a geek telling her what was wrong with the picture. Ask me if she listened to one word I said… :?

Looks like the perfect date movie to me...no historic details to screw up, B-17 on a big screen, and a movie my wife will enjoy too.

Looks like a good flick to go with the wife, indeed !

Just beware Gang, judging from the following reviews, this Film sounds like a real "Corn Husker"....

I'll still go see it though, even though there's no Tiger Tanks. Apparently that Chick from the O.C. takes Her top off too. Hey, Any Flick with Tits & Wings is O.K. with Me!! Especially if they're on a B-17 ... Digger

This isn't a war story or an airplane story... it's a love story that happens to include both of the former elements. So I wouldn't be too hard on the film makers in this instance.

As an enthusiast and historian, I'm in camp with the historical nit-pickers by default. But I am also a fan of film and story telling. I shall see this flick and, so long as it's a decent story with good acting, effects, and cinematography, I'll enjoy it for what it is. (yes, I liked Sleepless in Seattle... sue me...)

If they happen to 'get things right', well... then that's just gravy.

I was talking to some of the Yankee guys about this one last year, and he was showing some pics from the shoot. They flew the Lady over to Ontario, where a local FBO was dressed up as an ficticious USAAf base for some ground scenes (there is no Branagan, Michigan.) The movie is definately a romance, directed by Sir Richard Attenborough and starring Christopher Plummer. Not sure how much (if any) actual flying there is in the film.

Apparently, when the film crew "struck the sets" after shooting, the Yankee guys crammed all the props the could get their hands on into the Lady..including the banner that now hangs in the hangar. (you'll notice it says "1941," making the Lady totally inaccurate for the scene..but 99% of the population wouldn't have a clue. Also, by 1941 the "Army Air Corps" had been changed to "Army Air Forces.")

No Tiger tanks, but the trailer shows at least one hot (partly) nekkid babe! Sounds like a chick flick, but with a B-17 and a little nudity I think I can live with it. 8)

I bet you only see the a/c in the beginning of the film, maybe no more than 3 minutes (or maybe less). So if you're going to watch, go for the story and not for the aircraft.
Cheers,
SC.

Well, if we wanna nitpick, shooting a movie set in '41 with a B-17 that was built in '45 is inaccurate too, but whaddaya gonna do? The world isn't exactly overflowing with C model B-17's in flying condition. 8)

The "hot babe" in question is the lovely Mischa Barton. As I recall she is (or was) on one of those Fox "Hey, we found a bunch of '90201' scripts in a box, can we reuse these somewhere?" shows. The film also stars Shirley McClain.

Still haven't heard of the flick getting a US release date set yet. I think it has already run down in Oz, I hope it gets a run here in the states at some point.

As long as we're being nitpicky, the Air Corp existed as a combatant arm of the Army Air Forces until 1947. This according to the USAF historical Studies Office at Maxwell.

I think I'll pass on this one based on the commentary here, though with no ill will toward Sir Richard or Christopher Plummer. Wartime chick flicks remind me of the beer commercial where the guy is trying not to barf in the French language love flick with his crying girlfriend.

RE Pearl harbor" I was a volunteer on the USS TEXAS restoration in the eighties and that is where all the BB footage was taken. It really pissed me off when they blew the mainmast on the Mighty T. When they capsized the Ok., the flipped an offshore rig boat or something and blue screened footage of the TEXAS over it. All the BB scenes were camera trickery on that one ship. Pre WWII battleships aren't exactly plentiful either. Like warbirder spotting incorrect model a/c, there are a Navy guys and airchair admirals who recognize incorrect warships.
