When I first saw this white and red trimmed P-38, I thought it was the one Lefty Gardner had  . These are the first pictures I have seen where the aircraft is damaged prior to this beautiful rebuild :D .....When did this thing get cracked up, where did it happen, and who was a flyin' her :?:

It was Lefty's old plane. His son had an engine fire and force landed it in a farmer's field about five or six years ago IIRC. They sold the airframe, as they did not have the resources to rebuild it. Red Bull bought the wreck, and the Ezell's rebuilt her to the magnificent state she currently enjoys.

Cheers,
Richard

with the non turboed Allisions she sorta looks more like a P-322.
Maybe they should paint her in camo. :?:

I dunno Mr. Cook, granted highly polished Al-lou-mini-oum is a high maintenance scheme on any aircraft, paint adds weight.....This finish on this example of the P-38, reminds me of a period of which I would, I believe, love to have been a part of as a young man in my 20's, it looks like THE period in which America had set the standard in aircraft manufacturing.....a period in time when Americans all pulled together for one common goal...Victory....This aircraft is stunningly beautiful in this NMF scheme. But, this is merely my opinion

You should see this one in person! I've been fortunate enough to be part of the Ezell Aviation team in the past and I'm quite proud of that. But I gotta tell you this is likely the nicest looking of all the restorations they've done...particularly when you figure what they started with. Each member of the Ezell Aviation team should be very proud of what they've accomplished.

What is the story behind the carb intakes on the top of the cowl?

painting it as a P-322 is a great idea! :D I can dream....

HOLY COW THAT is among the most beautiful warbird finishes I have ever seen!! I would hope that plane is kept that simple, and not ruined with sponsors, logos and such.

It looks to me like they want it to resemble the YP-38.
