Hey Bill,

I'm having a problem with 157841 being N64F. She's listed as being a Bell-204B and the serial number doesn't match the Bell TH-1L CN of 6436. Still appreciate the info and photo.

Regards
Steve

Steve,
The 157841 info comes from "MASDC II, AMARC" by Barry Fryer and Martyn Swann. It is listed as AMARC no. 7H159. Below is scan of a part of a page from book. I did not confirm the info by another means. Sorry if it is wrong or confusing.

Hey Bill.....

Don't you dare appologize for helping out with the info. I really do want to thank you for it. And i also appreciate the list you posted. "Info" is sometimes hard to track and the more info you have it sometimes gets easier and sometime more difficult. I am really surprised how hard this TH-1L project has turned out to be.

Again Bill, Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D

Steve

Re: The Huey Challenge

Hi,
I was a Aviation Machinist Mate in HT-18 from '75 to '79. The birds were numbered from 100 to 180. Old double nuts, AC 100 was the skippers bird. It also became the Hanger Queen when we were short on parts, which during the 70's was all the time toward the end of the fiscal year. I worked out of Work Center 110 on the mobile truck on the flight line the last part of my enlistment. I was also a collateral duty inspector and later a QA inspector. I came to HT-18 December of '75 and was in the First LT's division. Our division officer went down in AC 180 I think spring of '76. Him and two students. We also lost another AC around '78 or '79 from mast bumping. The side number was 17? . 180 lost the stab bar. I have a lot of photos. Would it be better to post them here or e-mail them direct? I think I worked on most of the UH-1E's and TH-1L's in the squadron. After they came out of the hanger I washed the engine, trimmed it for flight, tracked the rotors ( head and tail). Worked with a test pilot Mike Diner (sp?). Great looking at the aircraft again. Ed Buchheit

Hello Ed,

Great that you found this thread.

Seems that we were there at partially the same timeframe, 77-79 for me. I still haven't found quite all the photos yet but I'm still looking. :(

177 / 157847 was the mast bumping bird. First I have heard of #180 but that matches up with my data. That must have been 157850, the last TH-1L built.

I'll bet you had a ton of fun tracking those things. :drink3: I seem to remember them being fairly smooth for being Huey's. Had you gone to the strobe by then? All my tracking experience with the short body Hueys was with the flag pole and grease pen.

Ed, left you a PM.

Regards
Steve
