I'm off to spend a few days in Orange County over New Year. Any museums or (accessible) airfields worth a look while I'm down that way?

I know about General Lyon's B-17 and B-25 at Orange County Airport, but have photographed the both of them thoroughly at Chino earlier this year. Anything else in the area that I should see?

TIA

Mike

Lyons also has an A-26 as well. All are based on the Northwest side of the runway at Martin Aviation.

Western Museum of Flight just reopened in Torrance, CA... a bit North of OC. http://www.wmof.com *edited, thanks Mike!

Just to the Southeast of OC is Temecula, CA... French Valley Airport is home to Provenance Fighter Sales and a C-Model (or B-model) P-40 restoration.

I'm not aware that they restore anything at French Valley. I think the work is being done elsewhere, far, far away.

It's not associated with Provenance... see photo at: http://rides.webshots.com/photo/1329340195044851409OJxGHv?vhost=rides Shares a hangar with an F-4 project (next photo after that one above).

It's an independent guy... JimH might know.

The photo's 2 years old now. This looks very much like the Provenance / Rod Lewis example now in New Zealand - see photo on Provenance's website.

Thanks for the info guys - I think a visit to the Western Museum of Flight is called for. Has anyone from here visited them since the relocation to the new site?

I am working on a new feature for the Locator which will build a map with push-pin markers which show the various locations. That is the kind of thing you need, but it won't be ready until some time in the new year.

In the mean time there is the CA listing...

Do you want to find locations of displayed, stored or active aircraft? Then start with the The Locator.
Do you want to find or contribute to the documented history of an aircraft? If so then start with the Airframes Database.

Chino is only about 30 minutes away. Planes of Fame and Yanks are both there as well as Aero Trader and others. 57 north to 60 east to Euclid. Follow the signs

Thanks Chris - been to Chino at least half a dozen times over the past 2 years. Also spent a long weekend in San Diego in October, so did most things of interest there.

Just wondered if there was anything worth seeing in the bit of California between San Diego and LA, as we're spending a few days down there over New Year.
