Is this an airplane tire?

My dad picked this up from a friend of a friend. Anyone know what it might be off of... if its a airplane tire :shock:

I'm not an expert, but I'd say yes. As to what it came off of, I have no idea, I'll make a stab in the dark and say T-33. Then again, how big is this thing?

based on the tire treads being straight lines I figure it's from an airplane, as opposed to a heavily treaded tire from a car or truck.

It reads:
Size= 7.50-10 (don't know what that means)
and Hayes industries Inc. Jackson, Michigan USA.

Don't know if that helps. There is a serial number but i cant make it out clearly.

7.50 is the tire width, I think. 10 is the outside diameter of the wheel it fits on. My plane uses about a 3,50 x 4 tailwheel tire, and 12 inch main wheels. It may also have a ply rating, that is the number of layers. My main tires are 10 ply, the tail 6 ply, I think.

Does the other side of the wheel look the same as the side pictured, or does it have provisions for a brake assembly? That info would help us know if it is a nosewheel tire or a main.

It's a Hayes /Autofan wheel. Could fit T50/UC78 if the drum is 2" width, if 1.5" width could be PT19/23/26. Cannot tell if the two Dzus hubcap bosses are there or just plugged with dirt. If 1.5" drum width also popular on Wacos with Autofan/Hayes brakes.

Old SAR, forgive him. Bill is an expert on one aircraft, the Spitfire. On any other aircraft his knowledge is suspect, at best. :lol:

Forgive me, I just assumed everyone was familiar with the prototype T-28 which had the tailwheel, not carried over to production.
