'70s Fly-Ins & Airshows

Thu Dec 06, 2007 10:28 pm

Greetings All -

A few months ago, my good friend Bob Burgess offered me spares from his extensive 35mm slide collection. In less than a millisecond, I said YES and I have since scanned around 300 slides with more to come. Bob's been shooting since the late 50s/early 60s and includes a tour in Vietnam as a GIB in F-4s (206 missions) and afterwards with the ILANG in Springfield, IL again flying in F-4s.

These photos are interesting and show various Warbirds in '71 at East Alton, IL and at Wright-Pat plus some miscellaneous here and there.

Hope you enjoy them! Mark

Those are some fine photos!
Most of the photos you see from that era are not that good.

Great job scanning them too!

More please!

Judging by the chocks laying to the side, I would say he probably was not doing a run-up. I wonder if he ever realized why the airspeed indicator didn't work

Thanks guys - these slides are a small sample of the 300+ I've already scanned (Epson Perfection 4990 and Silverfast software working thru PhotoShop CS2) though most are contemporary military and civilian/commerical aircraft. I'll see him this weekend and he has more slides for me.

Here's some more miscellaneous warbirds....

Enjoy the Day! Mark

Exceptional images, and some familiar 'friends' there.

I look forward to the odd Spitfire.

Thanks and keep 'em coming.

I'm guessing those were Kodachrome. I doubt Ektachrome would hold up that well.
