ANYONE have a clue what the hell is going on in THAT photo on the Midway at SD? Just weird odd to throw smoke over a warbird like that to me and ruin it...

Yes, it's called Sabredriver bait.

It works like this:

1. Take a photo of an aeroplane doing something really unspectacular like sitting on the ground making a bit of smoke.

2. Post the photo on the web.

3. Wait for some bored herbert to post a link to the photo on a forum with some half-assed comment about producing smoke over a warbird.

4. Bingo, you've caught a Sabredriver.

Nothing doing that will ruin it. The residue will clean off. They used the USS Midway museum as the start location for the Red Bull air races when they were in San Diego.

Actually there was a bee infestation on one of the jets and they were trying to clear it out with smoke so the hive wouldn't cause undue corrosion to the jet's airframe. Oh wait, they park them next to the ocean to corrosion must not be one of their concerns. -->[insert appropriate emoticon here]<--

What's the difference between a norbert and a herbert? And who ran Sabredriver off, anyhow?

I've noticed in a lot of your posts when you refer to yourself you use a lower case 'i' instead of I. Sabredriver used to do the same thing. Did you guys grow up together? :wink:
