A place where restoration project-type threads can go to avoid falling off the main page in the WIX hangar. Feel free to start threads on Restoration projects and/or warbird maintenance here. Named in memoriam for Gary Austin, a good friend of the site and known as RetroAviation here. He will be sorely missed.

I probably should also add that the engine project on FIFI
is going to start soon. Starting in mid-December, money will start coming in for that project (NOT from the previously pledged source, however), and work will commence. I will be working very closely with whoever the new Crew Chief is, assuming that person wants my help.
Soooo, if anyone out there would love to have my old Crew Chief job, then give me a shout and we'll be happy to chat with you.
Gary

Congratulations, Gary !!!!!
I will miss Eric as I missed Doug in the past. However, I am really pleased that this position was offered to and accepted by you. A great addition !!!!

Sounds like good news all the way around. Great job Gary! I know you'll make the job your own and it will be for the greater benefit of the CAF.

Gary:
When I heard that Eric was leaving and that SafetyBob was taking over some of his duties, I thought then that you would be the best possible replacement for Eric. I am REALLY stoked and happy for you!!
Keep the faith, you will be an outstanding addition to HQ. I doubt they could have found a better person, with a better combination of skills and knowledge of these ol' hunks of tin....
I agree also that the CAF has desperately needed a position like this for a helluva long time. Anything that the RedHead, or I, or any of us at National Capitol Sqn can do for you, just holler.

Congrats Gary. I hope to see you this winter in Dallas when you make your trip to our wing to check out the R4D, BT-13, & L5.
I only wish I had the kind of skill you do to be able to do such a great job on airplanes.

Congratulations Gary, they couldn't have picked a better guy.
Does this mean an end to those crazy hours you used to put in on 'Lil ?
Also will we be getting the sort of updates that we used to get on 'Lil on ALL the CAF's aircraft when you visit them now !

That's the way I have it planned.

I'm hoping to have more time to work on my little air racer on the weekends and at night now.

Well, that's not a bad thought. We'll see how that works out. It's just a bit too soon to say for sure though. Remember, we still have to find someone to replace me as the Crew Chief of the B-29/B-24 Squadron before I can completely move into this new job position.
By the way, thanks to everyone for your nice comments. I very much appreciate it!

Following this link/subject off and on again, it appears you will slide into this new position nicely. Congrats........

Way to go, Gary!! Don't think they could've found a better person for the job!!
...Just be careful walkin' out in the hangar, now, tho...... Ol' 927 might just reach out and grab ya! (Not to mention FiFi!)
P.S. Now with more time on his hands (instead of 90W), how long do you think it'll take the "Home for Wayward Aircraft and Petting Zoo" to grow rapidly???

Very Best Wishes for your new job Gary !

Congratulations Gary! The CAF is very blessed to have you in the organization. I wish you well in your new position.
I was a little nervous when you had hinted before about not doing many more updates on Ol' 927 that maybe you were leaving for greener pastures. Glad to hear that you are staying with the CAF. Hopefully in this new position you won't have the tremendous stress levels that came with "too little help and deadlines fast approaching".
Good luck my friend!
Steve
