It is a Rotary Vee cylinder and Block assembly- looks like a 12 cylinder. The concept seemed to be a great idea, but was never developed. Where exactly was it?

i think your righti it was a 12, the guy had so many things that was just one many I was looking at. I got it confused with the V-16 Caddie engines. He's in Illinois

Nice pix armyjunk!

If ya ever get over that way again, take a trip to the Grissom Air Museum. Great collection sitting outside and well cared for, given their limited resources. Go on a Saturday and meet with Rollie Douglas who runs the register. He is a ball turret gunner with an interesting story of colliding with another B-17 during a raid on Hamburg on Dec 31, 1944. B-17, B-25, B-47, B-58 and many others on display. On rare occasions, they will open the KC-97 for a walk-through...very complete inside!
