This is the place where the majority of the warbird (aircraft that have survived military service) discussions will take place. Specialized forums may be added in the new future

Boots, didn't the Armor Museum at Ft KNox used to have a running MkIII?
Just curious - most all of their stuff was rumored to be operable...

They have two of them. No idea if they run or not. The Mark III certainly would be one of the easier tanks to get operational again, though. Seems I was wrong about thier rarity

Now THAT is a warbird. Can we do anything to help save her? What a hero!

Great article! Very exciting!

That really is a great article. I am amazed with the history of that airplane and it's ability to survive this long.
I really hope the plane can be saved. It is a HUGE piece of history and cannot be lost.
I wish the museum all the best of luck in acquiring the plane.
Cheers,
David

Last info: the team is on the site, and have started to prepare the disasembly this monday. The weather looks not fine: snow, etc (and that not the easiest condition to dismanteld an C-47

)
Regards...

Nah. It doesn't get too cold there. The snow actually makes it a little better-it sort of insulates the air, helping keep it warm somehow. They'll be fine. I'm really glad this warbird is going to be saved. It's really one of the warbirds, eh? MUST be saved.

Just to say, that there is daily update on the website of the team:
http://www.airbil.com/DC-3-bosnie/DC-3- ... Master.htm
They hope to bring back the plane in France on the beginning of next week.
The comments of the crew, is that the plane is in very good shape, (perhaps could be restorable to fly but that's not the project because $$ €€€

)

i though tthey just shot the tires out of it, but looking again it is just covered in bullet holes. I guess there were so many around it didn't seem out of place.
Nice that the germans are helping a bit as well--and it's funny how French those frenchmen look

Hi all,
It's wonderful to see people and authorities from differents contries working together to preserve a war veteran like Snafu.
Et un grand bravo à cette équipe de passionnés pour le travail qu 'ils ont accompli.
Even with their "french touch"...
