Warbird Information Exchange

There was a minor accident this afternoon (Fri) about 2 pm at the Boulder airport. A Cessna was coming in to land and did not quite make the runway 8 to the east. He seemed to have some type of power loss and just cleared the lake, coming down on the grass before the fence, then flipping over. It was a plane they use for parachute jumpers, perhaps a C206 or 210? The pilot was a young man, was alone and bumped his nose, but was walking around otherwise ok. I don't know any more details except weather was perfect. I had just started up to go flying. If there is an accident, I hope all could be with this good an outcome as far as the people involved, not counting some damage to the plane.

Whew! Glad to hear the pilot was ok!
I had a minor incident on landing the other day with a left gear strut collapse on touchdown (not the whole gear, just the part that looks like a shock for the non-pilots here). Gave me and the instructor some interesting thoughts for discussion! As they say - if you can walk away from it...

I saw Mike, the 24 year old pilot today. The plane was a turbo C206. There were seat belts, but no shoulder harness and he hit his face on the yoke, so has a broken nose but is otherwise ok. He says he had fuel, and it is injected so was not carb ice. Don't know why it lost power. He thougth maybe vapor lock. I have seen vapor lock on my Bonanaza when parked on a hot day and on first start up. I have never seen it in while runnig in the air on a cool day.It was an older plane and it was insured.

I'd guess it was maintenance related.


Every small civilian jump plane I've seen, was little more than a pile of parts that just resembled an airplane.


I will not work on them or fly in them.
