Jack,

Great title for the thread, but the "Cat" cap is a little misleading. Skeeter is quite certain he is a dog. :P

Better, I'd say, than snakes IN a plane! Didn't someone here post a tale of sharing a cockpit with a snake???? That's happened to me, but that's a WHOLE 'nother story!!!!! And a WHOLE different kinda snake! :?

I used to have this big inflatable snake that was supposed to scare birds out of the hangar (didn’t work). When I was moving out of an old apartment, one of my buddies thought it would be cute to leave it in the middle of the empty living room. Just about gave my landlady a heart attack when she went in there!

His name was Poor Petey the Snake. He was so poor he didn’t have a pit to hiss in.

I have a snake story but there's no airplane in it.
Just me, a water moccassin, a golf course, a ambulance
and a hospital. :?
Moral of story....I hate snakes and I don't golf

Ellen and I had been going down to Midland to help on the B-24 for a while and one day she tells us "I've never seen a rattlesnake and I really would like to!" Gary says "let's go" and they headed out to the hill to find her a new pet. Gary was explaining to her how to find the areas where they slithered around and holed-up to hide, and then he says "I can't hear them when they rattle, so if you hear one let me know and I'll flush 'im out!" (This was before he got his new hearing aids.) Needless to say, that statement made her eyes open a little wider. Sadly for my lovely wife, no contact was made with the foul creatures that day--she didn't get her trophy until July.

The intrepid snake hunters at work. I apologize for the poor photo quality, but I was working on an airplane at the time. :)

True nuff Rick, but an even better snake is a deep-fried snake..tasty little buggers! :D

That one is certainly not in the "little" category. Self Field Sobriety test, say "Rattlesnake Steak", 3times as fast
as you can.

"There's a big snake in the plane, Jacques!"

"Oh, that's just my pet snake Reggie!"

"I hate snakes, Jacques! I hate 'em!"

(great scene from a great movie!) :D

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

I had a "close encounter of the rattling kind" many years ago when I was visiting the XC-99 outside Kelly AFB in San Antonio. The grass was about knee-high at the time. I had the wide-angle lens installed on my camera and I kept backing up, and backing up, and backing up, and backing up, tryin' real hard to make that enormous airplane fit in the picture. I just about had it, and I took one more step backward, and then I heard... IT. Aw, crap! A rattlesnake! REALLY close, and really agitated!!! I froze in my tracks, and I slowly looked over my left shoulder. Yikes! I had apparently plopped my left boot down just a few inches from this big-a$$ rattler, and he (she?) was not pleased! The snake was in the classic "ready to strike" position, and I gotta tell ya, I was terrified! So, like they tell us on TV, I just remained as motionless as possible, and the snake gradually calmed down, uncoiled itself, and slowly slithered off into the grass. Luckily for me, it went off at about a 90 degree angle to where I wanted to go to get my photo! :o

I sure am glad the XC-99 is getting a new lease on life, and that people will be able to take her picture without having to watch where they're stepping...

Cheers!
