In Flanders Fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae, MD (1872-1918)
Canadian Army

Sunday,
I'll be working an airshow. One thing about working Lone star's events; I've the honor and privelege of meeting men like Dick Cole and Tex Hill.

On remembrance day we (my self and a few like minded friends) visit veterans in nursing homes who have nobody left alive to visit or are just forgotten, in our eyes these chaps will never be forgotten. WE don't just visit this day, but make a special effort for them on the 11th.

It's a beautiful morning here in northeast Oklahoma, and Ellen and I intend to go to a local ceremony and then do touch-and-goes at some of the many Kansas Basic Training Airfields in our region. Every time I land at Coffeyville, Independence, Strother Field, and the other BT fields I can't help but connect in a small way with the guys in the photos Jack posted on this thread.

THANKS TO ALL VETERANS AND EVERYONE IN UNIFORM TODAY--YOU MAKE US PROUD.

Scott

I just found a photo that I wanted to share--these are the men of the tiny farm town in northeast Nebraska that is Ellen's and my true home. This picture was taken on the day of the funeral of Leonard Kathol, and in it are all except three men of our parish who served in WWII. Only one man, Leonard Kathol, was KIA. Our parish lost August Sudbeck in WWI, Myron Heger in Korea and Marvin Wiebelhaus in Vietnam. Incidentally, Ellen and I are related in some way to probably 75% of the men in this photo.

Dad is fifth from the left in the middle row, my Uncle Emery is eighth from left in the same row, Uncle Merlin is second from right, bottom row and Uncle Elmer is fourth from right in the bottom row.

Thanks, guys.

I did not do anything special today as far as going to any events, but I took several occasions to say my private thanks to the vets present & past, thank God for you all.

Cover them over with beautiful flowers,
Deck them with garlands, those brothers of ours,
Lying so silent by night and by day
Sleeping the years of their manhood away.
Give them the meed they have won in the past;
Give them the honors their future forcast;
Give them the chaplets they won in the strife;
Give them the laurels they lost with their life.
~Will Carleton

With My Thanks
Robbie
