Hey Bill,

I'm glad that the "ban" was lifted and that you're back. You bring a lot to WIX and it's a shame that the whole thing was blown way out of proportion by everyone.

I hope what happened doesn't effect your participation on this board. It would be a shame to see you go. It would also be a loss if you reduced your participation on here.

I've always enjoyed your comments and think that you are one of the more level headed and rational thinking people on here. It's just a shame that any comment you (or anyone makes) that is somewhat liberal, gets shot down by the huge number of "non-liberal" types on this board, but the those "non-liberal" ideals are never questioned when posted.

Anyways, I look forward to seeing you posting again here.

Cheers,

David

Glad to see you back Bill. :D

I stayed away from that one string of threads cause I did not want to be pulled into it. Sad to see such things get blown away. This year has been kinda bad for that.

Anyway...I always enjoy your posts and I think you bring a lot of interesting things here on WIX. I don't think WIX would be the same without you.

Now go wax up the Spit. :D

Hey Bill,

I definitely agree with you that getting into as many airplanes as you can is very important for being a good pilot.

Look at Bud Granley... I imagine he's snuck his way into your spit when you weren't looking.

But yeah, I like to think my flying skills are better for having flown a wider range of airplanes than other people I went to flying school with.

C-150's are fun, if you don't need to climb in a hurry!

Cheers,

David

Spanner, you are right, I had forgoten how the Washington establishment quakes in fear of the mighty 152. Were I to point my 1946 J3 Cub at them, they'd probably panic and rush East into the sea.

It is good practice to try different airplanes, makes you a better pilot.

That's for sure... And it's very eye-opening when your still-relatively green behind the ears! The Arrow I've been flying lately is a lot of fun, and challenging too! The Symphony before was quite an experience trying to get used to and learn a new airplane and the IFR stuff at the same time.

Wonderful to have you back Bill. You are one of my favourite posters on WIX, and it is indeed good to have some liberal flavor here too, with someone not afraid to speak it.

Free speach is one of the most vital, and important rights we have here in the US. It is sometimes a very narrow line to walk, sadly. The loudest among us often think they are the "rightest", but both sides have something to offer, and it is important to hear them to make an informed decision. We should perhaps stick more to the theme of the site, ie. warbirds, but I never thought you had any negative intent in the post that got so many people so hot. It is not in your nature, clearly, but some people read what they want to believe in everything.

There are always legitimate questions to ask about the choices our government makes, no matter how ugly, and it is part of our civic duty to do so, always. I don't know how it suddenly became "unpatriotic" to question ones government... never saw this before the W was innaugurated. Afterall, it was upon such determined questions that our nation was formed, and long may it continue to be so. Keep the faith, and keep posting.

All the best,
Richard

In this post I did NOT use the terms baby killers or blood orgy or anything similar. This was not My Lai. I will offer $1000 to anyone that finds those words in the original post written by me. People read and interpret things with their own bias or that they think the writer(me) has.

Bill,
I own part of that, and it sounds like I offended you a bit (or maybe a lot). I apologize for doing so and I in no way meant to offend you with my reference. I was exaggerating to illustrate a point. I'm glad you're back. I really appreciate your point of view- this one definitely hit a sore spot with me (very unusual as regards your posts). As seems to be the norm here- I should have left it between you and Randy. Thanks to both you and Randy for the great posts.

Forgoten Field, thanks for the apology, and more power to you. Where did we ever go wrong and get to the place as a nation and as people where we can't say I was wrong? To me part of being a good pilot is to self debrief your flights and see where we need to improve. A couple of guys I know who are really bad pilots never made a mistake so they never had anything to improve and they never get any better. I am stubborn, but I also want to be correct in a good way so if I know I am wrong, then I try to change. I can say this, I came from a Republican family, like most of us growing up with John Wayne or Audie Murphy we assumned war was a simple matter of us good guys beating the bad guys. When I learned it wasn't always like that, I did change. Nowadays lots of gray areas, seems not many good guys anymore, just various degrees of evil. Fortunately, with guys like Sadamm or the nut in N. Korea, there is no shortage of those worse than us.

Guys one thing that stuck me, was the number of people who say they have enjoyed or learned from things I have written about flying and the Spitfire. I was surprised by that, I am not a real fighter pilot, I only get to fly a real fighter and sometime I wonder if what I write has any relavance or interest to the average guy. Apparently it does. I think it is the well earned and well deserved reputation of the Spitfire that carries the day. Wish I could take everyone for a Spit flight. On the other hand, I really do have a brain, I really can read and write(forgot how to spell sometimes!) have a degree from U T (not a GED from that place 90 miles away) and I just might have an insight or two on something not just flying. And try and hope I can learn from other people.
