I assume a move like this would not happen until the Memphis Belle is restored?
In my last post, I was talking about the Swoose.
Yeah I guess sometimes we need to be more specific with which A/C we are talking about since this appears to be a two A/C subject! I was talking about Shoo Shoo Baby! She was never delivered in O.D. :!: :!:, if there are any out there then somebody prove me wrong!! There's a photo of the first crew(Lt. Paul McDuffie comander) when she just had two Shoo's and no nose art and the data block clearly O.D.! In the book there is also a six ship formation with Shoo Shoo in bare metal.

Was there another aircraft painted with that name named Shoo Shoo baby? There is a pic of an O.D. Shoo Shoo Baby in the offices at the museum. That is where I saw it.

I don't think so? But probably if you look at that pic again and look a little closer it is the early one with two Shoo's, The two books I have on the 91st show the same picture but one is really dark, like a bad photo copy!? And you have to look really closely at it to see the O.D. data panel, but since the other photo is nice and clear it is no doubt BM :!:
But I wouldn't mind being proven wrong

2nd from the top is it. It was in the ofices as you walk in through tthe hall way to the Big guy's office. So this was indeed another B-17. I thought it was ours at a different stage in it's life.

I'd liked to be proven wrong on this, but I think Shoo Shoo's flying days are over.

But the it does pose an interesting question. What do you think is the cost difference? Between servicing and preping Shoo Shoo for a ferry flight or to disassemble her and transport her subassemblies by road to the NASM?

Which is the best risk vs. reward?

Pretty sad state of affairs that the mighty NASM can't restore the Swoose or at least put it together and dispaly it "as is"...

I know that the fuselage is at the Garber facility. Are the wings and tail section available as well?

It is a shame but, I will bet the AFM could put it on display in its current state. There are a few that thought we would never see this bird together again in our lifetime.

This move also means that the NASM has an "extra" B-17G that will become excess to their needs. Perhaps it will re-enter the civilian world and be restored to flying condition.

Unlikely. They will probably "loan" it to another museum for restoration and display...

Since I dont know how to hi-lite someone's post then respond to it, I will say to Matt the NASM does have the wings and the tail section for the Swoose.
