I don't think it was the CAF R4D, and nothing's showing on FlightAware for a DC-3 having departed DFW from 1500 to 1800 which is kinda odd because usually all flights out of DFW show up since ATC usually puts in a VFR plan for their departure from the DFW Class B. It must have been a privately owned DC-3 then because if it was commercial it would have almost definitely have been on an IFR flightplan.

Randolph AFB is having an airshow this weekend...maybe it was going there?

Didn't see any DC-3/C-47 on the list of planes, but those lists aren't always accurate.

I'll be there & report back! :D

I did not see it living in South Florida but nice to know that there is folks in the Fort Worth keeping an eye on the skies. Bought a lot there and hope to start building on it next year.

This very sharp-looking DC-3 was operated by Texas Instruments for many years as a flying electronics test bed. I saw her at Meacham a couple of months ago. Looking good! :D

Another former TI flying test bed is also alive and well and looking good. . . that would be the beautiful Twin Convair on display at Planes of Fame! :D

There was a second DC-3, but I've lost track of its final fate.

Cheers!

THere was a polished metal C-47 at Randolph for the show, but I'm not sure where she was from. It had early war markings with the meatball in the star.

That sounds like the CAF's Bluebonnet Belle.
Here is a shot of her from AirSho 2005:
