Bearcat Restorations?

Mon Oct 29, 2007 2:53 pm

Any Bearcat restorations out there? You don't really here a whole lot about Bears, but I'd like to see more fly. One never has enough Grummans...

One at Chino with Steve Hinton, it's been at the '90% done' stage for several years now.

Then there's the former Elmer Ward 'Gulfhawk', but I'm not sure if that's being actively worked at the moment.

Several years ago at Chino at a hangar party at Darryl Bond's hangar (pretty sure it was his hangar) there was a Bearcat project way in the back buried under a bunch of other stuff. It looked fairly complete minus engine, prop, canopy, and some innards I'm sure. Mike, could this be the project you are referring to or is this another?

If its anything like car projects, the last 5% takes 95% of the time.

At some point in time Pacific Fighters will be going through the ex-HFM Bearcat, but they've got a few other things to complete first.

The Coutches have one over in Hayward. It is a Gulfhawk, only yellow.

Stephen C told me to come over and see it a couple years ago at Marysville, I should probably do that one of these decades.

Wasn't Dusty Dowd at one time working on a Bearcat based on one of the Kaman wind generator machines plus parts from other Bearcats?

Yup, and believe he still is...

Then ol' Dusty has been playing with that thing a long time...

Reno Bearcats coming down the chute -- maybe 375 mph and accelerating:

Now that's a sight (and sound) to remember!

I thought LoneStar's was the other wind generator. Elmer Ward's was the second. Was there more than two?

I could be wrong But I dont think the LSFM Bearcat was a wind generator. I do know that it was a gate guardian at Quantico.
