So some friends wanted to go to the NMUSAF this weekend. I planned on leaving Pittsburgh with the guys, Friday night, staying overnight, seeing the museum the next day, and then going to KDAY and getting a rental car and driving to Michigan where I am relocating to. Well we left Friday night, stop in Columbus to get dinner, come out to find that someone broke into our car while we were inside. They stole all of our clothes, my not even a year old Nikon D-50, my new zoom lense, my GPS, and some stuff for my cell phone. People suck.

We filed a police report, no prints. I am hoping that either my or his insurance will cover the GPS, and camera. But I am not sure. What really sucks is that I had pins on my camera bag from museums and battleships I had been to, my EAA Lifetime pin, and shirts from different Tomcat Squadrons and an Army shirt my friend brought me back from Iraq. It was actually at Reynoldsburg, OH about 10 miles East of Columbus.

darn!!!! There is always stuff involved that can never
been replaced isn't there. I bet they ditch the bag with
all the personal memorabilia on it because it could easily
be inentified, hock the camera and use the cell until you
turn it off........BASTARDS!!!!!!!!

Geez, that stinks. Wish I'd known you were coming over this way....I'd have told you to bypass Columbus altogether. I wouldn't leave a Sherman tank alone in that city, or anywhere near it. Not that Dayton is much better when it comes down to it.

F***ing parasites! I bet they specifiacally target vacationers, knowing they'll have a bunch of valuables in the car with them. I've only had my vehicle broken into once, but it was a POS and all they got was some old useless junk.

Sorry to hear about your loss, Stang. It especially sucks when they steal purely sentimental items like that, which you know they'll just toss in the nearest dumpster. At least none of you got hurt, although that's a small consolation.

Hey mustangdriver,
Very sorry to hear about your stuff getting stolen. I used to live in a nice middleclass neighborhood and someone tried to steal my car, the police said they were within about 15 seconds of getting the car started and driving off before they quit for some reason. Had my Minolta camera and 2 extra lenses stolen while on a trip. It just ruins the whole trip, not to mention that nagging empty feeling of loosing something with sentimental value.
One thought... do you have the serial number for your camera? It might show up on ebay. A friend recovered his jeep that way. They were selling the parts off it.
And another thought: people are selfish. They only want what they want and don't care about others. I think that's one of several reasons why our vets are called the greatest generation. They were taught a higher standard... to love their neighbor.

Sorry to hear about your bad luck, Mustangdriver. I know it seems like a theme here, but I too have had similar situations happen to me (two cars stolen, one car broken into [everything stolen out of it, of course], and one car burned)...but then again, I lived in Memphis most of my life, so you just come to expect it nowadays. :x

Good luck with recovering your personal items.

Gary

The worst part about it is the stuff that can't be replaces of course. But also the fact that they took my D-50 that I saved up for and pulled a ton of O.T. to get, so that I would be spending my normal income money. So when I did it, I did it right. I bought the extra 70-300mm zoom lense, the filters you all told me about, the speedlight, the nicer bag, extra batteries, cleaning kit, nicer SD card. On top of that, I also had a small 8.1 megapixel fuji point and shoot in my bag as well. I had it to shoot a few video clips and stuff. So much for that. I am really heart broken, and on top of that, I a have sort of lost faith in the average human being. Thank you for the kind words..
