The following description appears on Paul Freeman's site "Abandoned & Little Known Airfields", under Southeastern South Carolina, for Page Field at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot at Parris Island, SC.
There is a photo with the description.




"A 1999 photo by Matt Lockman of the remains of a Brewster SB2A Buccaneer which crashed on approach to Page Field during WW2.
Matt reported, “An interesting side note: The Parris Island golf course is southeast of the airfield.
Behind the club house is the entrance to a nature trail that meanders through the very southern tip of Parris Island.
Along the trail lie the remains of a Brewster SB2A Buccaneer that crashed on approach to Page Field during WWII.
The wreckage lies upside-down & is pretty crumpled & weather-worn back down to bare metal.”


Does anyone know if these remains have been recovered, or perhaps scrapped. If not, I might make a field trip. It's only about an hour and a half drive or so.

Don't know about that one, but there were remains of a Bermuda/Buccaneer on display at the Tullahoma airshows in the early 80's. They had found it in the woods by the airport.

The wreckage was still there and still in pretty much the same condition as of about one or two years ago (I'll check my emails at home and nail down the date for sure). In any case, I'd say chances are good that it remains untouched to this day.

I was told by one of the guys working on the NMNA Buccaneer that parts of this aircraft had been scavenged for their restoration. However, how much of this was recovered, and whether the rest still lies where it fell is unknown to me.

Yeah, just like I said, "the remains are um, touched"

Now that you mention it, I remember that at the time there were said to be some unique interior components still present that might be of use to the NMNA restoration team... but, I never heard whether or not Pensacola decided to follow up. Sounds like maybe they did after all.

Even so, I expect that the main body of the wreckage could well still be there. I'll ask around and see if I can come up with a more definitive answer.
