I just checked with someone at his side. Tex is not out of the woods but is with family and friends as of 1735 central time.

....and thank God he has'nt...he's one helluva character, and I have met him and talked with him on several occasions, a couple of times while he and I were busy cleaning the CAF's P-40N (painted up in his markings as I recall) and have heard numerous stories from him, he is a joker and a lot of fun to be around. One of my most cherished photos on my wall is of him and the CAF P-40 crew chief 'Bear' Barricklow standing in front of the bird....the two of them signed it for me, but time has worn down the signatures to 'barely detectable'....but his SMILE in the photo will never fade...

Get better, Tex....

Mark

Thanks Doug for the update, I don't know where someone from out of state heard something that we right here in Tex's home town have not heard? Hope all goes well with him, but idle speculation does no one any good. I have someone on the "inside" also and do not want to see any more "gossip" as to his condition on this site or any other. I am sure that if there is any news one way or the other we will all find out soon enough. If people must do something with their time then I suggest they pray for a favourable out come. By the way it was good to see you in Colunbus and hope you had as good of time as we had.

Ditto to what Ober said about Tex. I've really enjoyed the few opportunities to speak with him.

Prayers for him and his family.

You know, 2 years ago, doctors pretty much said my grandma wouldn't live past the weekend after a bad fall. I drove back home to where I grew up pronto. It was so hard to see her like that. She is tough though. Yesterday was her 97th birthday. I called to wish her happy birthday and she wasn't home. She drove into town to the grocery store for a few things. 8)

Best wishes for Tex.

An Update as of a couple hours ago... Tex is still resting at his home in San Antonio with his family by his side... He is not taking any phone calls.... Keep him in your prayers.

I know Tex as many of us do, not as a close friend, but he always remembers me and makes you feel like a friend. He has been in my thoughts this season and weekend. I am sure he has lived a full lfe and if it is his time to go he will do so at peace. Here is one story he told me. We shared a ride in the courtesy van from the Wings of the North show a few years ago. We spoke about Kermit Weeks restoring the dual control P-40 and taking a number of these old warriors for another fighter flight. Tex related how great that was and especially the glass of fine Scotch Kermit provided for refreshments. Talking about the event worked up a thirist, so the van driver stopped and picked up a nightcap for Tex. He had a room all to himself the first night and a good night's sleep. The next night they gave him another VIP for a roomate. Tex told us he did not have to worry about the guy keeping him awake snoring since he knew how to prevent that. He said, "You wait until the guy is almost asleep, then sneak up on him and give him a kiss. The rest of the night he'll be sleeping with one eye open and not bother you."

Bill, you forwarded a true "Texism" Never talked with the man when he didn't have something profound to say. Of course talking to the man was rare as he always had the ear of some lovely young lass.

If anyone wants to leave a message for Tex you can post one on the AVG Flying Tigers forum.
