Shay,
That sounds like a Dow AFB bird. I know when the 49th FIS was stationed here in the 40's and 50's, they flew T-33As along with F-80s, F-86Fs, F86Ds, a C-47 and a T-6G! Suppose that could have been an Air Defence Command badge on the tail? It also may have been marked as a Hanscom AFB Mass, bird as that's where the 49th went from Maine. The 49th is known as the Black Knights and is now the 49th FTS. I think Randy Haskins may know something about them.

Sorry those aren't the markings I saw. Like I said I'm going off memory until i find my pictures. The markings that stand out are a green lightning bolt on the wing tip tanks. I think the 49th markings (if those were the numbers) were inside the lightning bolt writen in Old English Script. And some sort of knight emblem on the tail. I do remember someone at my squadron telling me that it was privately owned and while flying over the cleveland the pilot lost the conopy in flight. He made and emergency landing at Youngstown and park the aircraft. Supposedly the owner found another conopy and installed it but since then the aircraft sat at the end of the runway for years obiviously with no attention. I'll find those pictures but I didn't recall ever seeing a "N" number on the T-33. This might have just been a rumor. As far as I know it didn't belong to the 910TH although in years past they did at one time operate T-33s. It's reall frustrating not being able to find pictures when you want to. I'll keep looking.

Ok so i may have been a lil off on the green color part. But i found this photo on airliners. It looks right and the squadron is the 49th. This I believe is not the aircraft in question but a sister T-33.

Shay - I've heard of the Youngstown T-33 but never seen it. I think it did belong to USAFM. I may have more at home.

Sorry here is the Photo. Info on this bird: 58-0616 of the 49th Fighter Interceptor Sqn., Aerospace Defense Command, approaching home base on a rather dreary day. F-106 Delta Darts comprised the squadron's main equipment, and the T-33's served as unit transportation and electronic adversaries. This one is finished in typical natural metal.

Just found this. It's 49th FTS squadron emblem which answers the Knight question. This may have been where I got the green color thing from.

That is a 1970's vintage 49th FIS when they were at Griffiths AFB, NY, flying F-106s at the time. The 49th also had a detachment stationed at Loring AFB, ME at the same time.

Sorry about the obstructions, it's not in a very good spot for photos.

Any idea what happened here, distracted goose?

My father was the crew chief on this plane,in the early 1960's.This plane was stationed at Lockbourne AFB,Ohio(Which is now Rickenbacker AFB).It was the 87th Fighter Interceptor Squadron at that time. Here are a few photos from his time with this beautiful bird! A little background info for you.The black tip on the vertical stabilizer, was painted by my father. It also had a five point star painted on the black tip(which has been painted over since then). He did that to differentiate his plane from the others during touch & go's,and it was the only one with that paint job. It is a shame the tip tanks have removed, but he was tickled to see that his baby was still out there!
