I've heard a few rumors lately concerning aircraft with the Museum of Flight at Boeing Field. I so not know if any of these are true, so I turn to you all. Remember these are just rumors, and I have nothing to back them up.

#1 The "Dora" FW-190 has been sold, or sale is pending. (As far as I know, it is still currently on display.)

Image

#2 A trade is in the works which will see a real, non-airworthy P-51 swapped to the museum for the non-airworthy Spitfire. (Two Spitfires are at the museum. I don't know which one would be considered non-airworthy.)

#3 One of the four Oscars currently under restoration (wherever they are now) is for the Museum of Flight. (What will be done with the one currently on display?)

Like I said these are just rumors. I'm just curious as to what weight they hold and what the outcomes will be.

Thanks for any input.

190 has been sold to FHC. I believe the real Oscar is on loan from the EAA Museum (but is owned by the NASM).

Didn't the Oscar come with the Champ. Fighter Collection?

If I knew the FW-190 was for sale, I would have bought it. It may have been the coolest prop fighter of WWII.

By the way, What is FHC? (Flying Heritgage Collection in Washington? Or is it Fred H Caldwell)

The Museum of Flight has two Spits? I am pretty sure the one with the yellow spinner (how exact is that, eh?)... was flying up until it was put in the museum. I wouldn't consider that non-flying.

From what I understand, the mustang at there is a composite mock up. Not sure if it's made out of fibre-glass or if it is simply a composite of serveral airframes...

5J+Z can't really be acussed of being flyable as it needs a complete rebuilt. I was told it has a lot of lose rivits and is very tired. I thought
that the McCaws loaned it but maybe that's changed. The other Spit is
back east and I thought was on loan to EAA.

I'm assuming the other Spit is the ex-Champlin TMkIX which is or was on loan to the EAA in trade for the Oscar. The TMkIX is probably in much better condition than 5J+Z and I can't see trading it for a "junker" P-51 unless there were other considerations. Stranger things have happened though.

The junker 51 is to be rebuilt to static display condition by Jeff Thomas.

It has been a while since I have been up there. Now that you mention it I'm not sure if both Spits were there the last time I went in.

The Mustang on display is fiberglass. It's suspendid, so most people don't get a good look at it. I've got to admit, it's pretty bad though.

I suppose the 190 will be moved once the new facility is compleate at Everett. Do we know if they want to fly it? I guess I can ask Bud, the next time I see him.

FHC has a short nosed 190 thy are working on too, right?

Whoa, there is a name I haven't heard in a while... is he still affiliated with FHC at all?

There is still a Spit in the EAA Museum.
