I'll second Wade's comments about dpreview.com - well done and the info provided for different models is worth printing out and accessing more so than most manuals that come with the camera itself!

I started off with a Canon Digital Rebel (after a Canon Pro90IS) and moved up to a Canon 20D for much the same reasons as Wade alluded to. Absolutely no regrets and I will keep it until it dies. My sister-in-law has a 30D and while nice, I can do everything I need with the 20D and it cost me substantially less to acquire.

You may want to look at http://www.refurbdepot.com I bought the 20D there as a refurbished camera (refurb done by Canon and the manuals and software were all up to date and accessories were all new, including the battery). I think it was well worth the "risk" and far less risky than many of the supposed low price deals from online sellers out there. Beware the bait and switch from these shysters. Do not order online - call and talk to a person as that'll tell you a lot about what type of business they are...

Now saving my $$$ for a couple of "L" lenses.....

I recently bought a Nikon D-80 & am very impressed with it... I'm a WW2 & Vietnam Reenactor & used it at several events so far. I've snapped some really cool shots that would've been impossible with My other camera. Here's a few of My Nikon D-80 Photo Albums:

Seriously though, I've found this to be quite common in many other "Chairborne" hobbies ... Stamp Collecting, Coin Collecting, Model Railroading, Etc. Model Railroading was the absolute worst for some reason. I don't know why?? It seems You had to weigh at least 300 lbs to even start in that hobby....

It was a running Joke in Our Family, whenever We were out driving around somewhere & saw an extremely overweight person to mention "WOW, There's a Train Collector ... East Coast Division!!"
We'd all laugh, cause We knew what that meant... Digger

I have a Nikkon D-50, and really love it. I got the stock lense and a 70-300mm zoom zs well. I am still learning how to take photos, so excuse the modest attempt at pics.
