Has anyone thought of maybe getting Scott and the group to maybe come up with a concept of Chapters for the WIX group?

Say split up the US and then the World and have Like regional get togethers and newsletters, etc. etc. and maybe come up with some small dues to support the WIX Chapters or the Main or, just like the CAF does. Have Ranks, etc etc?

I dont know maybe I am just blowing smoke out my a$$ but I think it would be neat to have like a state chapter, or a regional chapter, where we all get together and have research projects or something like that?

I don't know. Maybe to get more people involved more in research and warbirds?

I am just thinking out loud.

It has been suggested to me personally before, and it might be something to look into in the future. Possibly doing a squadron based system similar to the CAF. I was thinking of maybe trying to organize something along these lines in an effort to help restoration projects and museums in fund raising and such. Thoughts?

Personally I think WIX serves it's current purpose well. In my opinion I think that trying to re-invent it into something other than what it is would be a mistake. I think if you want to join an organization that is like the CAF, then joining the CAF is probably the best thing to do. There are many local organizations that you can belong to, EAA, CAF, local museums that can use the help and why not volunteer at one of these organizations. They already have the infrastructure, insurance, etc to support volunteers. Perhaps the most useful thing for WIX is to continue to highlight those projects that are available throughout the country. Perhaps allow organizations to post stickies in the maintenance hangar for project that they would like volunteers for. Then WIXers that are local or within driving distance that are interested could get involved in those projects.

Ryan's got a point.

I'd wouldn't want to see WIX suffer due to over-expansion on several different tangents and uncharted territory.

It would definitely be a great idea though, but I think if it were to happen it should be controlled and run by a group relatively seperate from WIX, but still associated with WIX. The part I like best is Scott's addition of helping with restorations. At my museum we have a hard time raising funds and it usually only comes from our relatively small membership. There's only so much they can donate, but if there is a larger body of simply warbird interested people that can help here and there, that would be great! It could also be used to better coordinate airshows with different groups, spread the word of events, etc.

A way that it might work is with WIX org doing their thing under the WIX name, while the staff at WIX won't be drawn away from the running of the message board.

I seem to be rambling now...

I don't know if WIX chapters are vialble, but everyone should be aware that both CAF and EAA have local chapters, of course not in every town. I'd gues those guys not only fly and work on planes and museums, but may socialise as well.[/code]

I guess what I would like to see is more like, get togethers or something.

Not trying to reinvent the wheel or anything, I was up late last night, popping my pain pills and was going nuts until 4:00 a.m. posting random thoughts.

Scott, maybe on the site, we can put a world map up and have a locator of all the WIX folks on it, so we can share information, etc. etc maybe have get togethers. Also, would be nice to have a members board with all the pictures of our faces and locations and contact information, for those who want to share it on it as well?

I like using this board, actually, love using it, but it would be nice to organize a get together where we can sit and BS, drink a few beers, share stories face to face.

As far as Chapters goes, nothing formal, just maybe a locator map of all the members and assign them to a region.

Paul,

Here's the page for get togethers, although I missed the current one at Reno, decided not to pay for the pit pass on that day.

We could start with a WIX frapp.
