I know you are going to be at the Moonlight Fund Airshow Lady O-2 pilot, but is the Skyraider going to stay or bug out to Houston for the Sunday show?

It is my understanding he is staying Sat evening.....but I suppose that is subject to change.........are you doing the ramp or the bossing????

What is this Moonlight airshow, I haven't heard of that one? Is it fun or just fund? Is it for everybody, or do you have to have 2 engines and a funny tail?

It is a show which raises money for Hospital Burn Units in the area surrounding SAT. For years it was just flip-flops who donated their time, planes and acts. But it has become bigger and better and received some wonderful corporate sponsorship. The show has started including warbirds and military. And yes they like planes with two engines and funny tails especially after seeing the Skyraider and the funny plane do our thing with pyro at Burnet Last year I flew with a Twin Beech and and T-6 roundy round...wasn't quite as fun

Although I agree about the Black funny tail you don't need two engines. Seriously the Moonlight Fund Show is probably for the best cause in the country........aid to burn survivors and their families mostly military vets returning from overseas. They pick up the ball when the govt. drops it. You can go to their web site (just google moonlight fund airhow) and see what type of work they do. Although it started out strickly as a flip fop show the warbird contengent gets bigger every year with this year a full blown pyro show. If you are going to be in the area we would certainly welcome your single tail bird. After you look at the website PM me and I will hook you up with the show coordinator. I'm just a worker bee. And oh yeah, it's a fun show also with a capitol F in fun.

Ryan, thanks for asking. I'd be interested in Houston, I have friends, relatives and a lot of good memories from there. I used to go most years and it was fun. Only problem is they haven't invited me since Charles Hutchins left the staff. I went one year on my own, didn't need a room, just some fuel and they weren't very receptive. It's about the only show I can think of in 24 years, except for the EAA ones in Phoenix and Hondo that have not wanted a Spitfire. They do have closer ones like Lone Star and Cavanaugh, but they don't seem to fly much. I think mine is the only one I know of at Wings. It would be great to fly with the Hurricane if by chance it got in the air.

It seems that over the years the warbird ramp see's less and less aircraft. I havent quite figured it out but it seems like more and more modern military than anything else. None the less..it should still be a good show with the Snowbirds this year! Glacier Girl and 927 are posted to attend. Strike Eagle demo too WITH PYRO! And pending F-22 flyby!

As Bill said the invitation process has changed considerably for the warbirds since Charles Hutchins is no longer doing it. Many of the people and planes who were regulars in the past are not now.

I agree that the warbird ramp has definately shrunk through the years. I remember 8 P-51s in the early '90s. Shoot, I remember 4 Mustangs and 4 TBMs in the late 90s. Cavanaugh doesn't show up anymore for some reason and they used to show up with 4 or 5 airplanes. 2003 was probably the last decent year that I can remember. The single engine line-up was 2 Wildcats, 2 SBDs, 2 P-51s, Spitfire, P-63, Sea Fury, SB2C, and Skyraider.

Bill, the Collings Foundation is going to have a static grouping of airplanes on the opposite end of the ramp this year. We would LOVE to have a Spitfire if you are interested.

Ryan, thanks for the kind offer from the Collins group. I have made plans to fly back to Colorado after Midland rather than go to Houston, as my son will be with me and needs to get back to college. I wil keep Houston in mind for next year. I had a nice tme at W, Houston event a couple of years ago and I am still trying to get to Burnet, but the weather in not cooperative. And most of all for this weekend HOOK EM HORNS, and for that weekend you all Fly Safe. Bill
