I thought I recalled a 80s show that had P-51D chase scene and I "thought" the mustang used was Clay Lacy's.

Anyone?

A little while ago I was driving to the shop on a Sunday and saw what I thought was a DC-3 in the pattern at Stockton Airport in California. When I reached the shop I realized that it was not a DC-3 but a DC-2. Shortly after she taxied by and stopped at the Jet Center. A friend and I drove down there to check it out and they had a cowl panel off and a guy was up to his elbows in R-1830. It seems they had an oil leak that they were trying to identify.

I walked up to the guy who looked like the pilot and introduced myself and offered the use of our shop if they needed anything. He shook my hand and said his name was Clay Lacy. I was in awe at being face to face with this aviation legend.

We retrieved the tools and gear that the mechanic asked for who turned out to be Pete Regina.

I had a great conversation with Mr. Lacy and he told me about the filming of the Magnum PI episode with the Lear and his P-51 Mustang. He said that he was trying to tell the studio folks how unrealistic the script was but they didn't seem to care that much.

Pete takes care of his mustang and has flown with Mr. Lacy a lot. Pete had wonderful things to say about Mr. Lacy and his flying skills.

I was just driving into the hangar on a Sunday and it turned into a magical day. Meeting Mr. Lacy and Pete Regina and hearing their awesome stories and crawling through an amazing DC-2 that Mr. Lacy bought and restored to donate to the Museum of Flight in Seattle.

Life is good!

I watched Tuskegee Airmen again last night...any idea which Mustangs were in that? I know that thunderbird was the B-17.

Edit...after looking into it...it was an episode of Airwolf... Black crime fighting Helicopter, Black crime fighting TransAm...

Speaking of 80's TV shows with Warbirds my favorites were the Airwolf with "In The Mood" and "Heavenly Body" as well as the Simon & Simon with "Betty Grable." Of course, that is my B-25 prejudices coming out lol.

Thanks for posting that, I've talked about that Simon and Simon episode for years and nobody ever knew what I was talking about! I remember the brothers going through a box of models, one of them pulling out a B-24 and the other saying, "Nope, it's only got two engines," and even as a kid at the time, I knew better than the other brother did!

I remember a show with a guy, his dog, and his mechanic flying around in a Grumman Goose getting into madcap adventures. Can't think of the name though.

Not so sure that's the one. Magnum was filmed during the '80s and the page says the wreck was rediscovered in 1995.

was it Miss Van Nuys? If so it belongs to Clay. I might also add that he is a member of our wing and has done many wonderful things for us over the years.

Yeah I wish I could find someone who had that Simon & Simon episode recorded. That would be a a funny one to watch again. I seem to recall at the end of it the old guy who was the so called original pilot got some whiskey or something out and rubbed the paint that was covering up Betty Grable's rear end and he gave her a pat. That was great lol. Back in the day my father had recorded it and we must have watched it 20 times lol.

I caught this one in late night reruns. It is called Last Flight of the Betty Grable. It is part of Season 3 if you want to check out the DVD when it is released so far only Season 1 is availible...
