325th FG

Sun Sep 02, 2007 9:51 am

Here's one of my favorite pics- Gordon Austin in Lighthouse Louie of the 325th FG Checkertails. How cool would it be to have one of these out on the airshow circuit.

With all due respects to the vets of the AVG, my hat is off to those pilots of Tomahawks and Warhawks in the North African and Mediterranean Theaters. All things considered, pitting an early Tomahawk up against a Ki.27 is not much of feat but those guys in the MTO had to wait around at low to medium altitudes for the 109s and 190s to come screaming down on them in the initial bounce to even have a chance at a fight. Seems to me that it took a lot of guts to go out day after day with the odds stacked against you that badly. Under those circumstances, I think the P-40s and her crews did a pretty fair job of accounting for themslves.

Where was that photo taken? Is that an LB-30 in the backround?

Thanks,

I didn't think the sharkmouth was meant to make it look funny until I saw this one. Not only does it look happy, but it looks too happy!

Cheers,
